Fireplaces, Cheap Bottles Of Wine And Pizza. Does It Get Any Better?

Here’s why we’re bringing in the weekend at The Unley.

During winter, there’s nothing better than snuggling up by a warm fire with a bottle of wine and hiding away from all your responsibilities. Unfortunately, we don’t have a fireplace or a bottle of wine, and far too many responsibilities. Enter: The Unley Hotel, to save the day once again.

If you and your mates can finish a bottle of vino, you’ll be rewarded with $10 off the price. And since we always love a good incentive to buy a bottle of wine, that’s our Friday night sorted.

It gets better.

Here at Glam Adelaide, we like to think we know good pizza. Whether it’s a thin crust or a deep pan, a classic crust or a crust stuffed to the brim with cheese, pizza can turn any frown upside down. Fortunately, The Unley do great pizzas. You see what we’re getting at here.

Their pizza menu changes every. single. week. That means there’s always a plenty of variety so you never have to come in and eat the same old Hawaiian pizza over and over again.

Their previous weeks’ options have included some amazing flavour sensations such as smoked salmon and caper; chorizo, olive and pesto aioli; and smoked chicken, spinach and feta. Sorry, we’re practically drooling just writing about it. Throw some of that wine we mentioned on top and you have a solid night of cheesy face-stuffing and wine-induced relaxation.

Not sure which wine (or two) to choose from their extensive list? Well, we had a chat to our friends down at The Unley Hotel to get their tips on their six favourite bottles of wine they have to offer, and they did not disappoint. So strap yourselves in, take note of your favourite wine, and get ready for a night in front of the warm glow of the fire.

The Lane Lois Blanc de Blanc

This lovely wine is from the Adelaide Hill’s very own The Lane Vineyard in Hahndorf. A blend of three Chardonnay clones, you’ll be able to taste hints of lemon and lime, with a long, clean finish.

Longview Whippet Sauvignon Blanc

A dry white from the Adelaide Hills, just outside of Macclesfield, that you’ll fall in love with again and again. If you love the sound of refreshing melon, gooseberry and mouth-watering acidity, with a long persistent finish, this wine is your cup of tea… or glass of wine.

Tim Adams Pinot Gris

With nashi pear, green apple and tropical fruit aromas leading into a full-flavoured, rich and textured palate, this Clare Valley dry white has a long finish.

Longview Devil’s Elbow Cabernet Sauvignon

Another Longview wine, but this time a dry red, this wine is a rarity in the Adelaide Hills region. With flavours of wild cherries, capsicum and fresh herbs, and a long finish, this red will keep you satisfied long after you’ve finished.

Samuel’s Gorge Grenache

A late riper, Grenache like derived from Spain – yet we can find it in our own backyard: McLaren Vale! With crimson fruit compote studded with cardamom, clove, cinnamon quill and black pepper and a million other spices, many have raved about this Samuel’s Gorge Grenache.

Irvine Springhill Merlot

A fantastic wine with a steak or lamb roast, this medium to full bodied red is a pick you won’t regret. With red and black fruit flavours, spices and black olives, the flavours will explode in your mouth from the first sip.

If wine happens to not be your thing, they also have a large range of cocktails and ten craft beers on tap.

Pizza and wine in front of the fireplace on a Friday night? Sounds like heaven to us. You know the drill.
