The future of healthcare in the Adelaide Hills is in view, with new renders revealing what the highly anticipated Mount Barker Hospital will look like when it opens. The $365.8 million redevelopment has reached a major milestone, offering the community an exciting first glimpse at the state-of-the-art facility that’s set to transform medical services in the Hills.
The new Mount Barker Hospital will significantly expand local healthcare access, delivering modern facilities designed to meet the needs of the rapidly growing community. The newly released images showcase a welcoming front entrance, a calm central courtyard, contemporary inpatient bedrooms, and a dedicated mental health unit, all designed with patient comfort and wellbeing in mind.

Once operational, the new hospital will triple its capacity from 34 beds to 102, delivering a huge increase to healthcare services across the Adelaide Hills. Expanded facilities will include specialist maternity, paediatric, neonatal, medical, surgical and sub-acute care, as well as dedicated palliative care beds. The redevelopment will also feature three new operating theatres, a post-surgery recovery suite, consult rooms for community and allied health services, an on-site dispensing pharmacy, and a 12-bed acute mental health unit.
Supporting the development is a new multideck car park, which will provide 395 spaces for staff and visitors, helping to ease congestion in surrounding streets. The car park is expected to open by mid-2026, while the main hospital building remains on track for completion by the end of 2027.

Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network Acting Chief Executive Officer, Kylie Williams, shared, “With the car park and main hospital building structure now finished, we can begin to see our new hospital taking shape. I want to thank everyone involved in the project for getting it to this point, and we look forward to seeing both buildings come to life.”
The project recently celebrated its “topping out” milestone, with the final structural beams installed for both the hospital and car park. A ceremony held on April 15 brought together members of the project team, where a tree was planted to symbolise good luck and honour the dedication of construction crews. To date, more than 8,334 cubic metres of concrete, equivalent to three and a half Olympic-sized swimming pools, have been poured, with workers contributing over 330,000 hours on site.
“Built is proud to be working with the State Government on a vital piece of infrastructure that will help transform healthcare in the region,” shared Built General Manager SA, Henry Meaney. “Reaching the project’s ‘top out’ milestone is a significant achievement, reflecting the dedication, skill and effort of the entire project team that has played a key role in bringing this vision closer to reality.
“We are proud to use local suppliers for building products, where possible. The project’s subcontractors have also engaged with Mount Barker residents for trade activities. This project represents more than just the construction of a hospital, it symbolises a commitment to the wellbeing of the region and a future where access to quality healthcare is improved for generations to come.”

With construction progressing steadily, the Mount Barker Hospital redevelopment is set to improve access to high-quality medical services for generations to come.
