Salisbury North’s Happy Home Reserve Road Safety Park makeover is finally complete, with a brand new family-centred space officially opening last week.

Designed to help kids build confidence on wheels and become a go-to destination for families across Adelaide’s north, the City of Salisbury’s new Road Safety Park is a realistic mini road network where kids can safely practise riding bikes, scooters and navigating as pedestrians. The space simulates real-world traffic conditions, featuring an asphalt circuit complete with pedestrian and train crossings, active traffic signals, road signs and clear line markings.

Located within the newly revitalised Happy Home Reserve, the Road Safety Park forms part of a much larger transformation of the area into a recreation hub for the local community. Surrounding facilities now include upgraded basketball and futsal courts, BBQ and picnic areas, increased shade, lighting upgrades and improved open spaces.

City of Salisbury Mayor Gillian Aldridge OAM shared, “The Road Safety Park is a fantastic addition to Happy Home Reserve, strengthening its role as a vibrant recreation hub where families can play, stay active and connect. This is an investment in both safety and well-being for our community, and it’s a place they will enjoy for many years to come.”

Accessibility is front of mind in the design. With the location along the Little Para Linear Park and within easy walking distance of Salisbury City Centre, including the train station and bus interchange, the park is within easy reach for families to visit without needing to drive. For those who do arrive by car, an expanded 130-space car park has been built for the reserve and the neighbouring Salisbury Aquatic Centre during busy periods.

The Road Safety Park is part of the City of Salisbury’s larger $36.8 million redevelopment of Happy Home Reserve, including the $32 million Salisbury Aquatic Centre, which opened in 2024. The new $2.9 million Road Safety Park and car park developments were co-funded by the Australian Government’s Local Roads & Community Infrastructure Program and the City of Salisbury, with $1.2 million contributed by the Federal Government.

Federal Member for Spence Matt Burnell MP shared, “The Road Safety Park will be a fun and exciting way for kids to learn road safety. The City of Salisbury continues to build a vibrant community through inclusive and well-thought-out infrastructure. I am proud to be part of a government that is supporting this.”

So if you’ve been looking to get out somewhere new with the kids, the new Road Safety Park is encouraging children to learn the road rules and gain confidence on two wheels in a safe, engaging and genuinely fun environment.
