A good banh mi never goes astray, it’s satisfying without feeling too heavy, and when done right, can lead to an explosion of mouth-watering flavours.
Nom Nom Vietnamese have filled a gap in the Adelaide airport foodie scene, becoming the first Vietnamese venue under the Hawker bar in the first terminal. Offering the fresher, lighter and more affordable option travellers were absolutely looking for between flights.
The restaurant keeps it simple and tasty, owned by Arno Tan, who has businesses across both Adelaide and Melbourne airports. Unlike other airport venues, Nom Nom does not operate under a global airport retail group; it’s a standalone concept under the Hawker Bar umbrella.
“Nom Nom focuses specifically on Vietnamese banh mi, rice paper rolls and fresh salads, allowing the team to do a few things really well rather than stretching across a large menu,” Arno said.
What can you expect to find in these salads and rolls? All the classics, from carrot strips and fresh coriander, to cashews, cucumber and chilli for the brave.
The idea came about after a trial period testing out Vietnamese and banh mi through Hawker Bar with Chef Anh, where the response from customers was strong and consistent. “Nom Nom is all about freshness.”

Everything from the menu caters around a banh mi thats made right in front of you, alongside Vietnamese salads and fresh rice paper rolls. “Everything is prepared daily using crisp vegetables, quality proteins and classic flavours,” Arno said.
“It’s an easy choice for both slower meals and quick grab-and-go moments.”
Hydration is an important aspect of travelling, and drinks on Nom Nom’s menu range from Vietnamese iced coffee to refreshing iced teas, classic soft drinks and juices. Viet-style iced coffees offer a very different take on the regular iced latte you order on the daily. Typically, the drink has a strong, sweet and creamy vibe, made by dripping dark roast over sweetened condensed milk served up with ice.
Drawing inspiration from both Vietnamese street food and French café culture, Nom Nom delivers a light, modern dining experience, situated on the left-hand side of the airport after walking through security. The space is located under the Hawker Bar, which in itself offers a diverse menu and sit-down venue.
“As our slogan says, we give fresh food and fast smiles.”
If you’re up for a salad bowl or bahn mi at 4 am, this is the place to get it, all the way up until 9 pm when Nom Nom closes up for the night.
