FIRST LOOK: ‘Adelaide’s first whole fried chicken’ has landed at Chicky Chuppy with a secret sauce

A new Rundle Mall fried chicken spot is serving whole Korean-style birds, six sauces and a secret flavour you won’t know until you order.

A new Korean fried chicken spot has landed just off Rundle Mall, serving up fresh chicken prepared daily and affordable prices aimed squarely at students, city workers and anyone chasing a quick, satisfying feed.

Chicky Chuppy is the latest venture from owner Kim, who also recently opened neighbouring dessert spot Sweetie Zone. With more than three years in hospitality, she said the new venue was all about bringing a fresh take on Korean fried chicken to the city.

“Korean fried chicken isn’t new, but I wanted to do it in my own style.”

“Chicky Chuppy was created with the idea of bringing Korean-style fried chicken to Adelaide using 100 percent fresh chicken prepared daily,” she said.

“We noticed a large community of students and workers in the area, and with the rising cost of living, we wanted to create a place where people can enjoy good food at an affordable, student-friendly price.”

While Korean fried chicken is no stranger to Adelaide, Kim said Chicky Chuppy is doing something a little different with its whole fried chicken offering.

“In Adelaide, they don’t really have whole fried chicken,” she said “They usually just do wings or pieces, but I wanted to bring the whole chicken.”

The idea is a share plate for the whole family or even a group of friends on their lunch break between university lectures. The menu features wings, boneless and whole chicken options with choices of combos, side dishes, snacks and a kids menu.

Snack options include classic potato chips, a small sweet potato, rice and kimchi, while the kids menu can enjoy chicken skin pieces and popcorn chicken.

A standout feature is the range of six signature sauces, spanning sweet and spicy, crazy hot, creamy onion, snow cheese, honey soy and a secret sauce that stays under wraps until you order.

“We don’t just buy ready-made sauce in a can and use that, it’s all definitely homemade, using traditional Korean recipes.”

“I want everyone to come and try it, and give me feedback,” Kim said. “I’ll keep trying and improving, I want to make it affordable, but still good quality.”

In the future Kim wants to expand beyond just one store, with hopes of becoming one of the most well known Korean fried chicken franchises in South Australia.

Right now Chicky Chuppy is having a 20% off storewide sale until April 18, as a thank you to the community.
