FIRST LOOK: Adelaide’s iconic Edinburgh Castle Hotel reopens with refreshed historic flair

The Edinburgh Castle Hotel in Adelaide’s CBD has reopened, revealing a newly renovated and refreshed establishment.

After months of eager anticipation, the iconic Edinburgh Castle Hotel in Adelaide’s CBD has thrown open its doors once more, revealing a newly renovated and refreshed establishment.

New co-owner Jatin and his business partner Rohit Kapur, who has had over 17 years of experience in the hospitality industry, expressed their excitement about the Edinburgh Castle Hotel’s relaunch.

To celebrate, the hotel is throwing its official grand opening party this Friday the 15th of December, offering half price tap beers, free cocktail food and live music by the talented DJ Phoebe Proposed.

“We want people to know that the Edinburgh Castle Hotel is back! We’ve been working hard to make sure everything is ready and now it’s finally time to re-open the doors to the iconic venue,” Jatin tells Glam Adelaide.

There have been a number of changes introduced to the venue, including two new bar areas and a revitalised beer garden.

“As well as our renovated space, we’ve worked extensively on our new menu and have received fantastic feedback. We now boast an elaborate list of cocktails, masterfully crafted by our experienced bar manager, and great food options,” Jatin says.

The Edinburgh Castle Hotel, positioned at the vibrant intersection of Currie and Gray Street in the West End of Adelaide’s CBD, has undergone this transformation to offer a new space for locals in the area.

The location near the completed $80 million student accommodation complex ensures a bustling atmosphere with increased foot traffic. The hotel’s proximity to the University of South Australia, Tafe SA, and the Adelaide College of Arts, as well as its convenient access to Light Square, makes it the perfect spot for a new food and drink hotspot.

“People have shared stories with us of cherished memories, celebrating birthdays, and marking milestones at this very venue. We are thrilled to be back and offer them an opportunity to relive those moments,” Jatin added.

The Edinburgh Castle Hotel boasts a rich history, dating back to 1837, making it the longest continuously licensed premises in Adelaide’s CBD. The challenge in renovating such a historically significant venue was to strike a balance between preserving its heritage and infusing a fresh and contemporary vibe.

“We’ve introduced two new bars while retaining the heritage style. Our goal was to transport patrons back to 1837 while presenting a fresh interpretation of that historical charm,” Jatin said.

The hotel’s renovation includes the addition of a delightful beer garden, poised to be the perfect summer hangout. It’s equipped with facilities to provide shade through umbrellas and also features a wood-fired pizza oven where guests can watch their pizzas being made fresh.

The extensive menu (including those wood-fired pizzas) caters to diverse tastes featuring an additional cocktail menu which is a testament to the talent of the mixologists, featuring locally sourced South Australian spirits and produce, including fresh herbs and fruits.

Leading mixologist Yaso, renowned for his expertise cultivated worldwide, including 5-star hotels and cruise ships, has crafted a selection of delightful cocktails. Notably, the Edinburgh Castle Special (Dry Ice) and the Rose & Raspberry Sour are some of the standout offerings.

As for the food menu, it offers an array of options, including an extensive burger selection, pizzas, flavourful risottos and pastas, mouthwatering chicken dishes, and a variety of snacks and starters.

With over nine burger options to choose from, including the Edinburgh Classic, known for its smashed pattie made from freshly seasoned mince, the options are endless.

To experience the fresh venue first hand, head to the official grand opening this Friday from 6pm – 9pm.
