Adelaide’s East End has welcomed a new café, Tiba Espresso, transforming a long-standing snack bar into a modern, airy space with a focus on locally roasted coffee, freshly baked treats, and a unique Brazilian twist.

Formerly Xpresso on Flinders, the space has been serving the local community since the 1980s. Now, under the ownership of Niel Rezende, the building is stepping into a new chapter with a fresh vision, all set to officially launch on Saturday, October 5th.

No longer the bright pink structure that housed Xpresso on Flinders, the building has undergone a significant change to feature more neutral white and green tones that give the space a sleek and modern feel. The transformation represents the owner’s approach of keeping what works while introducing fresh ideas to enhance the space.

“It’s a fun, funky place. It’s modern and high energy, with good music”.

Customers of Tiba Espresso can look forward to an evolving menu filled with fresh juices, signature iced coffees, and cold brews. Beyond the food, the café is committed to eco-friendly practices. “We’re using no plastic for our takeaway products, and we’re aiming to minimise waste wherever we can,” he adds.

With a menu featuring locally roasted coffee beans from 1645 Coffee Roasters in Glynde, the café is dedicated to supporting local suppliers while offering something special. Alongside the coffee, expect all-day breakfast dishes, freshly made sandwiches, rolls, and a revolving array of fresh cakes baked on-site each week.

Rezende has worked with 1645 for the past four to five years, and has selected their popular, all-rounded “Hummingbird” Blend as the signature flavour of his coffee. The business also brings a taste of Rezende’s Brazilian roots, drawing inspiration from his hometown of Curitiba. Brazilian twists have been applied to classic brunch dishes like chilli scrambled eggs.

The café also brings a touch of Rezende’s Brazilian roots to the menu. He’s introducing a twist to some classic items, with inspiration from his hometown of Curitiba, Brazil. Expect dishes like Brazilian-inspired breakfast options, alongside brunch favourites such as chilli scrambled eggs and a crepe menu where customers can pick their own ingredients.

Rezende is no stranger to the hospitality industry. After eight years working in various kitchens and managing Swedish Tarts, he was ready for a new challenge. Opening his own café gave him the creative freedom he craved.

Part of that creative vision includes supporting local artists. Each month, the café will feature a new artist, turning the walls into a rotating gallery of local talent. “We’ll have different artworks up for a couple of months at a time”.

Hoping to become an integral part of the community in the eastern end of the CBD, Rezende is eager to build a thriving local customer base. After a soft-opening last week, the team plans to officially launch the new menu with an open day on Saturday, October 5th, featuring coffee specials and exclusive opening day cakes.

If you’re in Adelaide’s East End, this new café is well worth a visit. From its freshly baked treats to its Brazilian-inspired flavours, it’s set to bring something unique to the neighbourhood.
