All aboard! A unique take on one of the city’s most popular forms of dining is here. Mr Hotpoter (pronounced ‘hot potter’), a double-decker hot pot train (now that’s a mouthful), has officially arrived in the CBD, bringing with it some seriously precious cargo that’ll drive your taste buds wild.
After gaining track-sion in Sydney’s Burwood, Chatswood and Hurstville locations for its unique twist on the typical sushi train setup, Adelaide marks its first move interstate – and manager Jason Nguyen tells us that Adelaide is bringing all the good stuff.

So, how does it work? The restaurant combines a traditional hot pot menu with a sushi train-style setup, where ingredients are delivered around the restaurant on double-decker train tracks.
There will be a wide range of soups to choose from, including Tom Yum, Thai coconut chicken, and hot & spicy, and Mr Hotpoter boasts a huge 100+ different ingredients running through their conveyor belt train. You’ll find premium ingredients like crunchy enoki mushrooms, conch, mung bean thread, crayfish, and quail eggs. If you’re not quite as adventurous, there are plenty of options like dumplings, tofu, and fish balls. For your protein, choose from a range of marinated beef, pork, lamb, or pre-packaged certified halal options.
There’s also a hot food station and ice cream machine that will be all free and self-service, in line with the restaurant’s affordability focus. “We want it to be really affordable. An eatery that’s pretty cheap in this economy,” says Jason.
And for the first month as an Adelaide exclusive, the train will have colour-coded plates on the conveyor belt starting from just $0.99 to $2.99.

Mr Hotpoter marks Jason’s first foray into venue management, but his enthusiasm for hospitality shines through.
“Many of my friends work in hospitality, and they’ve been a huge source of inspiration,” he says.
“I’ve always been drawn to positive energy, so when a friend in Sydney presented this opportunity, I knew it was something I couldn’t let slip by. It was also the perfect time for me to step away from the corporate world and do something for myself.”
The neon-soaked restaurant is a little more impressive than you’re average sushi train. Orange leather booths, double-decker carriages full to the brim with goodies, and a high-tech toy train gliding along the wooden carriages. The fit-out is arguably exciting enough on its own to draw kids (and the young at heart) in for a Hotpoter joyride.
So, whether you’re a hot pot devotee like a lot os us Adelaideians, or just love the thrill of catching your dish before it disappears down the track, this might just be your new go-to. Doors opened yesterday – all aboard!
“Honestly, I genuinely can’t wait to welcome everyone once we open,” says Jason. “There’s nothing better than seeing friends, family, and customers enjoying themselves — that energy is what fuels me.”
