FIRST LOOK: Authentic Thai flavours, fragrant curries, and crispy pork stir-fries win hearts in Adelaide’s north

With its fragrant curries, crispy pork stir-fries and genuine Thai hospitality, GG Thai is fast becoming the northern suburbs’ most talked-about new spot.

Every suburb has that one restaurant everyone talks about. The one that suddenly fills up on weeknights and has neighbours quietly telling each other, “You have to try it.”

In Adelaide’s north, that spot is GG Thai.

Just six weeks after opening, the restaurant already feels like it’s been part of the community for years.

It’s bright, inviting and has the delicious fragrance of lemongrass and garlic the moment you walk in.

Owners Natasha and Gen are getting to know the customers by name, waving from the counter between plates of stir-fry and curry.

The pair opened GG Thai in late August, choosing the Clearview corner site because it felt like home.

“There wasn’t a single Thai restaurant in the area,” Natasha says. “We live nearby, our son goes to school close by, and our friends were always complaining they had to drive miles for good Thai food. So we decided to do something about it,” says Natasha.

It’s their first restaurant, and you can feel how personal it is. Natasha runs the floor while Gen, a Thai chef with over 15 years experience and serious skill, keeps the kitchen buzzing.

The menu reads like a love letter to traditional Thai street food, with dishes cooked the way they’d be served back home.

There’s the holy basil stir fry with crispy pork, creamy massaman beef curry, spicy tom yum soup and the kind of papaya salad that instantly transports you to a Bangkok market.

But it’s not all fire and chilli. The couple wanted families to feel at home too, so the menu includes gentler options like honey chicken and coconut soup for the kids—or anyone who prefers things on the mild side.

“We have something for everyone,” Natasha says.

“That’s how it is in Thailand. Everyone shares. You try a bit of everything on the table.”

The restaurant’s name, GG Thai, has a beautiful meaning tucked behind it.

“GG” comes from a Thai greeting that means “have you eaten?”— a phrase locals use the way Australians say “how are you?”

“It’s how we show care,” Natasha says.

“If you walk past someone’s house, they’ll always say, come in and eat with us. That’s what GG is about.”

With easy parking, friendly service and the kind of flavours that stay on your mind for days, GG Thai has already cemented itself as a new local favourite.
