Yoga isn’t just about moving the body; it’s all about community, connection, and health. And at the new Body Alive Studios, that’s exactly what they’re doing.

Fresh off the opening last week, Body Alive Studios owner Rani Shah says it’s been wonderful to see the community support. “Being in the space of Fort Largs amongst all the other eateries, cafes, and marketplaces has been a beautiful way to interact with the coast and the area around,” said Rani.

While Body Live Studios is grounded in traditional yoga, Rani says its philosophy extends far beyond standard practice. “Our purpose for movement is that of increasing vitality and longevity in the body for the rest of our lives. Training the body in a way that builds strength and resilience now, so you feel the effects, and you see the changes in the body. But we also want to move this way when we are 85, 95 years old and have a really beautiful quality of life for the rest of time.”

As for their offerings, Body Alive Studios has a unique range of classes and styles available, giving attendees a chance to try their hand at something new that they might not find at another spot.

“All of our practices involve traditional yoga (Asana) but also incorporate spinal mobility, locomotion, and animal movement. We’ve got our ceiling hanging bars to incorporate a lot of grip strength, we incorporate upper-body work into practices that traditionally focus more on pushing movements, like yoga, and it creates a really holistic practice that makes the body feel very robust and awake.”

Body Alive Studios offers five different class styles, each with a different outcome. Vitality sessions are upbeat and energising, incorporating hanging bars to build grip strength, upper-body stability and overall resilience. Ideal for those wanting a strong, full-body practice.

For something more beginner-friendly, Longevity is designed to support everyday movement. It focuses on joint strength, balance, mobility and flexibility. The class works through functional movements such as squatting, twisting and single-leg stability, helping participants maintain independence, confidence and build joint strength, flexibility and general mobility.

Described as a “slow-flow style of yoga”, the Power class incorporates the use of optional ankle and wrist weights. Here, you’ll strengthen ligaments and tendons and also build endurance and breath capacity. Calm is a class style centred on Pranayama, a practice focusing on expanding breath capacity by learning different breathing techniques to enhance ability.

Last but not least, Body Alive Studios presents Animal Body, which is an off-mat experience featuring crawling, quadrupedal coordination, and movement-focused exercises in a fun, engaging way.

So if you find yourself in Fort Largs, seeking a bit of vitality, longevity, or just a fun way to move, Body Alive Studios are proving that yoga can be dynamic, playful, and deeply rewarding for all ages.
