FIRST LOOK: Circles Bar and Beer in Adelaide’s Chinatown

It’s a spot where the Classic Margarita doesn’t feel like a Frankenstein concoction of cordial and tequila. The Long Island Iced Tea feels as delectable as it does dangerous, without artificial sweetener drowning out the inebriation compilation, which is strained into the glasses of some other bars.

Glam Adelaide got the first look at Circles Bar and Beer on Wright Street in Adelaide’s own Chinatown district.

The day of their soft launch on January 26, 2023, the staff stood in the unshaded, sunny strip of Rundle Mall, tirelessly handing out flyers to its opening.

Instantly, I threw down the $300 to become a member there, after the contoured care of the crew had officially won me over. Circles ‘memberships’ are like a pre-paid tab/gift card with a 10% discount applied to each drink, so you can whittle away at your credit and wet your whistle across weeks, months or years without getting too generous on gin.

At Circles Bar, the warm and convivial hosts gathered around tables as if they were kids eager to greet the first few people at their birthday party on the Thursday launch. The staff cut each other off, eager to boast about each feature of this fantastic Japanese cocktail bar.

The immaculately bound menu books, adorned in a clean black sheen, carry pages of culturally abnormal but absolutely outstanding smash-hit drinks. Some of the more outlandish booze crusades include the shaker barrels, which contain 1.5 litres of titillating tasty cocktails, such as the Cuba Libre. Flights of shots come in a set of 20, with the hope of bringing in crews to celebrate and toast to the good things in life… We’re pleased to say that the launch of Circles is one of those things.

The existing activities section is currently undergoing renovations to become a den for board games, Mahjong, racing video games and… Wait, what’s that?

…Tea?!

Yeah, this smooth jazz hangout is planning to make itself available to the workday woman that needs tea or a cocktail and their beer-swilling boyfriends that can’t keep away from a controller.

The creative pricing system behind their memberships and the proximity to great sights like the Hilton Hotel (Adelaide) makes this an intimate and custom experience which just lets people do as they please without bleating EDM or loud city crowds.
