FIRST LOOK: Crafty Robot Brewing brings epic craft beers to the CBD with new brewery

Your new after-work drinking hole is sorted, as Crafty Robot Brewing makes a hoppy splash in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD.

While mainstream beers will always have their place, you might not know how blessed we are in SA with craft beer microbreweries that make the most delicious Golden Ales, Pale Ales, Dark Ales, IPA’s and Pilsener’s you can drink. And now, another one is on the map.

Crafty Robot Brewing is bringing a brewery to the heart of CBD which promises to be the perfect spot for an after-work knock off.

Owners Genevieve and Damien Rowe, and Tim Milotti, say that the new spot has been in the pipeline for a decade.

“First and foremost, we love beer and the science behind it. Tim and Damien were production brewers at Mismatch Brewing, and so after honing their skills it was time to create our own beer. Opening this brewery gives us a chance to share something that we are passionate about and that we feel helps build the local community,” Genevieve said.

The beer offering is second-to-none, with a combination of classic beer styles along with fresh, unique and innovative designs.

“We have designed the brewhouse to allow us to make high quality small batches to keep the beers fresh and exciting.”

They’ll also be pouring local gin and wines, supporting boutique SA companies.

There’s also a delicious food menu in the works, with the owners planning to have toasties filled with quality SA ingredients as the initial offering. But with space for a commercial kitchen, the plan is to have a number of beer-inspired food options in the future.

The funky name has a pretty cool story, too, with Genevieve and Damien wanting a fun and cheeky name, whilst also representing the scientific approach to brewing

“Damien’s nickname growing up was Robot and we felt that was appropriate and fitted with our brand idea. Crafty has the obvious link to craft beer but it is also a bit of a paradox to a robot. We like to call the robot Eddie,” Genevieve said.

The fit out was done in house, with design and construction done by the team.

The search for a site was lengthy and included a number of setbacks. But after the first viewing of the Grote Street location, they were hooked, with the layout ideal for an urban microbrewery and taproom.

“Serendipitously, two of us live in the CBD and believe there is a strong community feel, among residents and businesses, that would benefit from a sociable space. There is plenty of room for workers, families, and even pooches, with the large courtyard at the front.”

Where: 180-188 Grote Street, Adelaide
