FIRST LOOK: Escape to retro-inspired cabin Fleetwood Shack for an idyllic coastal getaway

Fleetwood Shack, a 70s inspired log cabin, is the perfect spot for a seaside retreat and located in one of SA’s most picturesque regions.

If you’re looking for a blissful coastal getaway this Spring/Summer season, the perfect seaside escape awaits down south. Fleetwood Shack, a 70s-inspired log cabin perched just above the iconic Middleton Point surf break, is the epitome of coastal relaxation and a sanctuary for those looking to escape the ordinary—with the waves setting the soundtrack for chilled vibes and relaxation.

Conveniently located just a stone’s throw from the sun-kissed sands of Middleton Beach, Fleetwood Shack promises to deliver not just cosy accommodation but a complete experience. The property, which was purchased 6 months ago by husband and wife duo Craig and Caitlin (who also own fellow Deep Creek beach shack and nature retreat, Tangerine Dream), has undergone huge renovations, with a team of people working on the project to revamp it into the laidback vibe it is today.

‘Fleetwood Shack has been a group collaboration’, says Craig. ‘My wife and I moved into the property when we bought it back in February and took the lead on the renovations with Dad, but it’s been a joint effort with my fellow business partners Ross and Alex, and Justin, who owns a landscaping business.’

Craig, who owns and operates various venues and music festivals around the state with both Ross and Alex, has spent the last 6 months in the thick of renovations, spending days overhauling the property from top to bottom with the team and the evenings sourcing retro furniture and household items online.

‘We wanted to retain the retro 70s aesthetic and log cabin vibes of the property, but we spent 2 weeks completely restoring the exterior, added all new cladding to the underneath of the house so it’s now enclosed and features a laundry and storage for surfboards, bikes etc, and we’ve also redone the bathroom and kitchen’, says Craig.

From the moment you step into Fleetwood Shack, you’re not only welcomed with ocean views, but you also get a sense of the warm heart-filled haven the space embodies. Complete with fresh linen sheets, a roaring fireplace, a cozy day bed for those lazy afternoons, and the unique pleasure of an outdoor bath and shower, the space comes together to promise a seaside retreat like no other.

The cabin’s unique location ensures you’re always just moments away from the natural bliss of the Fleurieu, whether it’s taking a 1-minute walk to the beach or a short stroll to the local bakery, pub, playground, and tennis courts—everything you need is literally right at your doorstep.

For those who love adventure, Fleetwood Shack provides the tools for you, with bikes to cruise to Port Elliot, Goolwa or Victor Harbour, multiple surfboards for all levels to hit the waves, racquets for the nearby tennis courts and skateboards for the local halfpipe.

Fleetwood Shack’s three-bedroom log cabin layout, constructed from Cypress Pine, sleeps 8 people and features 2 king-sized beds, a bunk bed and a single, with the master king bedroom offering direct ocean views and private deck access. The other rooms overlook the property’s carefully curated garden, designed to exude a charm of their own.

The open-plan living space extends a warm invitation to guests and is complete with a well-equipped kitchen, a Webber Q on the deck, and a unique “cowboy cooker” firepit on the lawn, that provides the perfect spot for star gazing at night. Wanna spend the evening in? A handpicked selection of vinyl—that, of course, includes Fleetwood’s Rumours—a custom reading nook, board games, and a barista coffee machine ensures there’s always something to do no matter what time of year you visit.

Designed to accommodate families, friends, couples and even a solo escape from your day-to-day, the property assures privacy, being fully fenced and secured, with ample parking space and easy access with an electric gate.

Fleetwood Shack seamlessly combines retro and modern aesthetics to create an ambience that’s both comforting and chic, and it was something that both Craig and Caitlin felt from the day they saw it. ‘I don’t know that anyone could see the potential of the property at the opening’, says Craig. ‘We understood it would be a lot of work, but we were happy to take it on because we felt the end result would speak for itself.’
