Small batch Clare Valley gin makers, Three Little Birds Distillery, have taken flight to new pastures with the opening of their Sevenhill tasting room. After outgrowing their Auburn venue, the team has moved to a garden-party-ready space a short drive away in Sevenhill.
The new cellar door is located at 22 Jeanneret Road, nestled behind Jeanneret Wines and overlooking Spring Gully Conservation Park. “It’s just a really beautiful setting, off the beaten track rather than on the main road,” says owner and distiller Leigh Brown. “We’ve already been getting more visitors to Sevenhill, and in terms of serenity, it’s just beautiful.”
Three Little Birds has a close connection with Jeanneret Wines, even crafting their Riesling and Shiraz gins using Jeanneret grapes. “Our gin really complements their wine,” Leigh says.
The distillery had a decorated year, winning Gold for South Australian flavoured gin with its SG23 Shiraz Gin, using Jeanneret grapes. The label was also awarded Silver for both its Shiraz Gin and Bramble Gin in the national class.
“It was pretty exciting,” Leigh says. “We do a Shiraz Gin every year, so it was pretty cool to see this year’s get that recognition.”
Visitors to the Sevenhill tasting room can enjoy gin flights, guided tastings, craft cocktails, and hand-stretched pizzas in a cosy, tree-lined setting, where gardens sweep with overgrown-yet-tidy shrubbery.
The distillery operates out of the property’s original cellar door, a space once used by Jeanneret. “It’s really cool to be in that old cellar,” Leigh says. “Ben [Jeanneret] redeveloped the upstairs with new decking and roofing, and we get to use the original cellar for our tastings.”
Leigh runs the distillery alongside partner and co-owner Lisa Marie, who helps manage the tasting room and business operations. Together, they continue Three Little Birds’ tradition of blending innovation with approachability, inviting locals and visitors alike to sit back, sip, and soak in the Clare Valley surrounds.
