There’s no two ways about it. Port Lincoln is a popular place, especially over summer as the weather warms up and people flock to the beach.

Now there’s even more reason to escape to the coastal town for a break. Locals Michelle and Steve Hankins have opened Jump Ship Brewery – a brand-new venue that promises to be the hottest in town.

Serving up citrusy summer ales, crisp pales, toffee-like ales and refreshing lagers, the brewery will be a one-stop shop for that after-work cold one. They’ve got a focus on brewing creative, drinkable beers, and say that there will be lots of changes, so you can drink something different every time.

But it’s the community spirit that really sets this business apart. Brewing beer and cooking were things that they did in their home for well-being. But Michelle says it’s time to include the whole community, and experience connection and joy together.

“I wanted to celebrate the local area and enrich Port Lincoln by creating a social community space where people can come in and relax. Whether you’re in a high-vis tradie vest or a business suit, we want you to come and have a good time over a few drinks” she said.

The local touch is right down to the name, Jump Ship Brewing, which Michelle says pays homage to Steve’s great, great, great grandfather.

“He jumped ship many many years ago to Port Lincoln, and if he hadn’t we wouldn’t be here. So we are very thankful for his spur-of-the-moment decision, because our lives would have turned out very differently if he hadn’t.”

Michelle isn’t new to hospitality, teaching the subject at the local high school.

“I teach food and hospitality at the local high school, and Steve and I have always wanted to create our own venue. He’s an electrician, which made the set-up a lot easier!”

Don’t drink? They’ve got you covered, too, with a range of non-alcoholic selections available.

The doors officially swung open on Friday 13th January, and since then it’s been good times on tap, with beers flowing and music. We’re told that, as the sun gets warmer, the beers get colder. So there’s no better time to indulge.

Jump Ship Brewing is open Wednesday – Sunday from 12pm – 10pm (8pm close on Sundays. You can find them on Edinburgh Street in Port Lincoln.
