FIRST LOOK: Lakes Hotel unveils new Japanese-Peruvian restaurant TUNKI in major revamp

New Japanese and Peruvian restaurant TUNKI is opening in Lakes Hotel in West Lakes as a part of a major revamp to the premises.

In a major revamp, Lakes Hotel is set to launch TUNKI – Ceviche and Woodfire Grill Restaurant, which will be a blend of Japanese and Peruvian flavours.

Launching in November, this exciting addition to West Lakes’ iconic Lakes Hotel represents a significant upgrade from the former Crusoe’s Restaurant site. Situated in a picturesque location with stunning lake views, the restaurant’s immersive aesthetics will include an open kitchen, woodfire robata grill, chefs table, walk-in wine room and ceviche bar.

The creative mind behind TUNKI is none other than Executive Chef Krish Dutt, known for his culinary passion, international influences, and knack for crafting innovative dining experiences.

Krish’s global travels and love for diverse flavours have culminated in TUNKI, a restaurant that captures the essence of South American culture and the delightful tastes of Nikkei cuisine – a harmonious marriage of Japanese and Peruvian influences.

“TUNKI to me is a mysterious marriage of Japanese Peruvian flavours. I just want to create a dining experience that makes people’s taste buds dance with excitement. For me, it’s all about bringing together the flawless combination of aromas and the creative spectacle of cooking over an open fire, and of course it’s all about enjoying good food and great company, creating joyful memories,” Krish said.

“Nikkei cuisine which is the culmination of Japanese Peruvian influences has gained international recognition and is celebrated for its harmonious balance of flavours, creativity, and beautiful presentation.”

TUNKI’s menu, which exudes the spirit of South America has been designed for sharing amongst friends. The space has been created for guests to immerse themselves in the dining experience with the open kitchen, chef’s table and ceviche bar with whole fish proudly displayed and freshly cut to order.

“Modern dining is theatrical, and the creation of food is like live theatre unfolding before the audiences’ eyes. TUNKI strives to create an intimate and personalised connection between chef and diner. We have curated an immersive experience, complete with views for a memorable dining experience”.

As night falls, TUNKI transforms into a vibrant evening venue with a world-class beverage selection
including its signature pisco cocktails and exceptional wines to spirits.

Trent Fahey, Director of Operations at Fahey Hotels, expresses his excitement for this new era at the Lakes Hotel.

“TUNKI signals an exciting new era for the Lakes Hotel and is a key major milestone in modernising and expanding the hotels culinary offerings. We wanted to bring a new cuisine and experience to Adelaide – Nikkei. We are excited to be able to share TUNKI and welcome visitors into this unique space,” Fahey said.

The grand opening of TUNKI is scheduled for November 10th, following its first service during the 2023 Melbourne Cup.
