Get ready to drink, dine, and dance in true 70s style. This July, your winter nights are about to heat up as the ultra-groovy, retro-inspired LUMEN Bar, returns for its fifth season as part of Illuminate Adelaide. From Friday, July 4th to Sunday, July 20th, the pop-up bar will transform Adelaide University’s Goodman Lawns, bringing a whole lot of style to the city.
In a nostalgic nod to the 1970s, LUMEN Bar is going to be your chic go-to winter spot.
“This year, LUMEN Bar is dialling up the atmosphere with an immersive 1970s lounge theme that invites guests into a stylish, retro-chic space unlike anything before,” shared Jess from the LUMEN team.
“It’s our boldest, most vibrant styling yet, complete with curated lighting, plush seating, and a vinyl-era soundtrack that transforms the wine bar experience.”
LUMEN is designed to be your go-to spot for a post-light-show wine or a place to kick back and relax for a full evening with mates. There are retro conversation pits, vinyl-spinning DJs, and moody lighting, all paired with a standout menu of local food and a top-notch wine list.
“LUMEN Bar is a collaborative design effort, with venue design by Adelaide University’s Director of Cultural Events Ross Ganf and Production Officer Neil Jensen, in collaboration with Tetrik roof installation, Venue Productions lighting, Crawfords Kitchens, Hi Fi Master Surahn Sidhu and Dann Event Hire Belvedere marquee and furniture.
“The goal was to create a nostalgic-yet-contemporary environment that’s welcoming, unexpected, and deeply fun. We want people to warm their souls in a cosy pop-up bar with an inviting atmosphere that inspires conversation, with a backdrop of vintage vinyl sounds played by live DJs.”
And to make it extra special, the drinks list features handpicked wines from alumni winemakers from the University of Adelaide’s foundation institutions.
“The wine list this year celebrates exceptional wines by talented alumni winemakers from Adelaide University’s foundation institutions. The featured alumni were selected based on their innovation from small-batch drops to iconic varietals.”
It’s not just about what’s in your glass or what’s on your plate, though. This year’s program includes a stellar line-up of special events and tastings. On July 7th and 14th, head along to the Waite Wine Tastings, or explore wines from Yangarra Estate on July 8th and 9th. If oysters and wine are more your vibe, don’t miss Oyster Night, pairing freshly shucked oysters with the crisp Lloyd Brothers Picpoul on July 8th and 15th. And the Yarra Valley’s Giant Steps will be in town, showcasing their wines on July 15th and 16th.
Open from 4pm until late, LUMEN Bar is a great excuse to rug up and make a night of it. With no entry fee, it’s the perfect starting or finishing point to your Illuminate adventure, or simply a great spot to catch up over a drink in a space that feels fresh, nostalgic, and oh-so-Adelaide.
Presented by the National Wine Centre and the University of Adelaide, LUMEN Bar is just the thing to check out this winter.
