There have been a host of South Australian Cellar Door undergoing epic transformations of late.
Bird In Hand reopened its stunning Cellar Door in February; Shaw + Smith last week revealed its new tasting room; Nepenthe opened their new cellar door yesterday; and Yangarra are set to reveal their renovations within the next month.
The Main & Cherry cellar door opened to the public just before Christmas, and had wine connoisseurs lining up to experience the long awaited venue. A few months later, the team at Main and Cherry have settled in. And it’s really something special.
What set’s this location apart is the sweeping view it enjoys; over the vines, gumtrees and Gulf St Vincent. It truly is breathtaking.
Plans to construct the visitor-friendly addition to their successful winery began in 2019, with digital renders released of the Chandlers Hill amphitheatre addition.
Owner Michael Sexton said that the cellar door was three years in the making.
“We wanted to build a destination point at the gateway to the Fleurieu and encourage people to start their journey to McLaren Vale by coming via the beautiful historic Clarendon township, which then leads onto the Epicurean Way road trip,” he added.
It’s immaculate, serene and sublime; dripping with sophisticated sunset ambience and built to accomodate the perfect date.
Main & Cherry vineyards brought home a gold medal for their 2021 Nero d’Avola red wine and silver for their 2021 Pinot Noir bottle in the Adelaide Hills Wine Festival, which has only served to build anticipation for the rich reds and newly introduced M&C Prosecco, in case you’re after something lighter.
“The Prossecco is made in a dry, refreshing style, perfect for summer afternoons on the lawn.
“We are equally excited about building on the success of our Clarendon Shiraz, which was awarded the best single vineyard Shiraz in the 2019 McLaren Vale wine show,” said Mr Sexton.
The cellar door offers wine flights, in case you’re curious about the origins, notes and history which Main & Cherry infuse into each bottle and let flow with each pour.
With a tantalising palate tickling troupe of Mr Sexton’s wine, guests can also expect light food to accompany their time at the cellar door and locally brewed beer.
Michael has forged his own path in Chandlers Hill since 2016, with the latest development being yet another example of the individualist ethos which has carried Main & Cherry to Australia’s Young Gun of Wine finals and through to the completion of the atmospheric building.
Main and Cherry is open Thursday to Monday from 10am.
