FIRST LOOK: Mediterranean-inspired restaurant ‘Lou’s by Horizon’ opens at stunning Barossa Valley winery

Following the success of Horizon Restaurant at 1837 Barossa, the talented husband and wife Team Horizon has launched their latest venture, Lou’s by Horizon.

Following the success of Horizon Restaurant at 1837 Barossa, the talented husband and wife Team Horizon has launched their latest venture, Lou’s by Horizon, at the scenic Lou Miranda Estate Winery in the Barossa Valley. Opening its doors in October, this new restaurant brings a fresh Mediterranean-inspired dining experience, set among the stunning backdrop of the estate’s vineyards.

The design of Lou’s by Horizon beautifully captures the Barossa’s golden ages, with elegant decor and artwork that reflects the region’s cultural heritage, with a modern touch. The restaurant features beautiful outdoor lawns and an enchanting interior, with reflective windows that allow diners to gaze out over the surroundings while enjoying their meal. Colourful striped umbrellas in the outdoor seating area add a fun, summery touch. It’s truly the perfect setting to enjoy both the finest Mediterranean flavours and the full dining experience.

At Lou’s by Horizon, the menu showcases Mediterranean food with influences from Greece, Morocco, and Italy. The restaurant is led by A’kash, a globetrotting chef who has called Adelaide home since 2012. With over 25 years of experience, A’kash has worked in famous kitchens across Dubai, Oman, and Europe.

A’kash’s love for Mediterranean cuisine is seen in his menu at Lou’s By Horizon, which is full of strong flavours and seasonal ingredients. The pork casarecce pasta is one of the standout dishes, with Italian-inspired flavours like fennel and pork mince. Another highlight is the lamb kofta, which features Moroccan-inspired spices and is served with hummus.

For dessert, Lou’s by Horizon is serving up its take on the traditional baklava. They’ll be calling it ‘crispy pancakes’, filled with date and sesame stuffing, as a less-sweet alternative to classic baklava, drizzled with just the right amount of sugar syrup to balance the flavours.

For A’kash, the food at Lou’s by Horizon is about telling the story of the places he’s lived and the flavours that have inspired him along the way. “My food speaks the culinary language of the cities I lived in,” A’kash says.

“My food is inspired by Barossa’s dining culture, the lavish food and wine heritage of the Barossa is so incredible; we want to eat it over and over. If you want to explore the uncovered culinary culture, and get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, visit us and explore your foodie horizon.”

The restaurant is currently open for lunch Thursday through to Sunday from 11:30am to 4pm, but starting in January, it will extend its hours to Thursday through Monday.

What makes Lou’s by Horizon truly special is not just the food, but the entire dining experience. From the elegant interiors to the relaxed outdoor seating, the combination of excellent food, fantastic service, and breathtaking views – it’s truly the perfect lunch spot for any occasion.
