FIRST LOOK: Mick O’Shea’s throws open the doors on lively new spaces, to meet, stay and play

Mick O’Shea’s unveils new outdoor spaces for dining and celebrations, refreshed accommodation and a playground while keeping its trademark Irish warmth.

The southern favourite is spreading the Craic again. Fresh paint. New spaces. Kids laughing on the playground while parents settle in for lunch.

Venue Manager Michael Davey has watched it being created in real time.

“It feels fantastic,” he says.

“Seeing the venue buzzing, full of familiar smiling faces discovering all the new areas and features, is incredibly rewarding.”

Early feedback has hit the sweet spot.

“Guests are loving the new menu, especially the Lamb Rump with chargrilled broccolini and shiraz jus,” Michael says.

“Families have made their verdict clear. The new kids’ playground has been a huge win. Parents tell us it changes the whole experience. They can enjoy a meal while the kids are happily entertained.”

“Sundays are a favourite with balloon artists and face painters.”

The beer garden has become the natural meeting point. With beautiful days and music in the corner.

“Guests are enjoying sunny lunches, live music sessions, and relaxed weekend get-togethers,” he says.

The Pavilion sits beside it and is already earning its keep.

“Birthdays and family celebrations work great there. It is versatile and really comes alive in the now we’ve got Daylight Savings We have even hosted a wedding in the space already.”

The brief was clear. Modernise without losing Mick’s soul.

“We were really mindful not to lose what makes Mick O’Shea’s special,” Michael says.

“It has always been known for Irish warmth and community spirit. We updated the design and flow, but kept the familiar textures, tones, and touches that make it feel like Mick’s. It is a fresh look, but the soul is the same.”

There were hurdles along the way. Timelines, logistics, the usual dust and disruption both in the hotel and in our accommodation suites.

“Transforming the space quickly while keeping it operational was a challenge,” he says.

“Builders and staff pulled together to stay on schedule and get every detail right. Seeing how much guests are enjoying it shows the effort was worth it.”

Mick O’Shea’s Hotel has also revitalised their accommodation too

“We have a great summer ahead,” Michael says.

“Live music in the beer garden. Family days. Easy afternoon sessions that roll into the evening.”

There is more on the horizon.

“Halloween and Melbourne Cup are coming up. Then our Christmas Eve carols on the lawn.”

And look out 2026… March will be huge.

“St Patrick’s Day will be bigger and livelier than ever,” Michael says.

“Plenty of Guinness. Irish dancers. Entertainment all day. The same festive celebration people love, now with the new spaces to match.”

Mick O’Shea’s looks ready for its next decade in the south, with the Irish welcome as warm as ever.
