FIRST LOOK: Morning Bagels is Glenelg’s new obsession, already pulling crowds down the street

With Matcha in a clear can, a #4 bagel already dubbed “to die for,” and house music setting the Morning mood.

There’s always a reason when a new venue opens to a line down the street. In a city like Adelaide, where crowds don’t form easily and loyalty takes time, queues usually mean one thing. Something’s landed that people didn’t realise they were missing.

Enter Morning Bagels, Glenelg’s newest obsession and the reason Jetty Road has been waking up earlier than usual.

Since opening late December, the beachside bagel spot has been selling out daily, with lines stretching past neighbouring shopfronts before mid-morning in a hype usually reserved for A-list celebrities or limited-run merch drops.

So what’s the pull?

Firstly, they’ve nailed the vibe. The fit-out hits immediately. Crisp blue-and-white tones, warm timber, and generous seating that spills into the street. Add a steady run of house music (arguably the best possible way to start the day), and suddenly Glenelg mornings feel a little more European cafe.

The menu board helps, too. Lit up and visible from halfway down the line, it lets you lock in your order well before you hit the counter, a smart move when there are 50 people already ahead of you doing the same mental maths.

The menu keeps things tight. Eight bagels, no room for panicked indecision. Breakfast lovers can lock in a classic bacon, egg and cheese, finished with a signature breakfast sauce. But it’s the #4, a crispy fried chicken bagel stacked with gooey cheese and creamy mayo that’s already hit social media fame, named “to die for,” “next level”, and “scrumptious.”

For those not committing to a full bagel situation, four open-sandwich tartines offer a lighter option, ideal if your bagel pit stop is at the beginning of your morning walk. And then there’s the wildcard, the rip ’n’ dip. A soft bagel served with whipper vegemite butter and black bomber aged cheddar, inviting exactly what the name promises – tearing, dipping, sharing (and daydreaming about forevermore.)

Coffee plays an essential supporting role, but the matcha – served in a clear can – proves to be the more popular choice. There’s just something about watching strawberry syrup weave through green matcha like a lava lamp that makes it taste better.

Located just off Morning Bagels is open daily from 7am to 3pm, catching both early risers and late brunchers, and positioned perfectly for beachgoers looking for an excuse to extend the morning just a little longer. The pace is fast, the energy high, the matcha green. And judging by the lines, Adelaide’s already caught feelings.
