New Fleurieu Gin distillery opens for special gin slushies & shenanigans event today

Fleurieu Gin has opened in Myponga, offering a unique blend of local food, award-winning gin, and family-friendly activities with breathtaking views.

Fleurieu Gin is kicking off post-Christmas celebrations today, and are opening from 11am to 10pm with a Summer Slushies & Shenanigans event! Prepare for a day of sunshine, fun, and refreshing gin slushies with gourmet pizzas, delicious platters, and light meals available with one of South Australia’s most scenic views. They managed to secure a special one day licence for today’s event, while they await their official licence to open full time.

Myponga locals Shane and Kylie Magor are the driving forces behind this ambitious brand new destination, which hopes to its doors this summer.

What started with a simple gin and tonic has blossomed into a full-fledged distillery. Shane, who previously worked in real estate, found himself drawn to the art of craft distilling and inspired by the potential of his family’s farmland in Myponga. “This has been two or three years in the planning, and it’s finally done,” Shane says. “You come up here now and you’re pretty pleased at what’s evolved. The feedback so far from the people that have visited has been amazing.”

The distillery is truly a family affair, with the couple’s son, Josh Stangroome, bringing his expertise from his time at the Victory Hotel in Sellicks Beach. “While the Fleurieu is celebrated for its world-class wineries and cellar doors, there aren’t many options for gin lovers. By drawing on our family farm and award-winning gin, we hope to bridge that gap,” Josh says.

Fleurieu Gin promises to be more than just a place to sample top-notch gin. With local food trucks, live music, and plans for a tapas-style kitchen serving lunch and dinner, it’s shaping up to be a destination for the whole community. “There is something for everyone here, with our beautiful, grassed area, bocce green, driving range and outdoor space perfect for families wanting a relaxed day out,” Kylie says.

And if you’re thinking of a function with a view, look no further. The distillery boasts a private room and a gorgeous grassed area overlooking Myponga, complete with twinkling fairy lights. “With a limit of 20 functions per year, we encourage weddings to enquire swiftly as the diary for 2025 is already filling up,” Shane says.

Since January 2023, the site has been undergoing a major transformation, with no expense spared. “There’s been no corners cut for the build. Everything has been done to a very high standard, and it just looks fantastic. We’re pretty excited,” Shane shares. The new facility will feature a cellar door for tastings and tours, a restaurant, and a function space, with plans to extend opening hours for functions until midnight, incorporate live music, and introduce a terrace bar.

With its breathtaking location, family-friendly atmosphere, and dedication to quality, Fleurieu Gin is poised to become a must-visit destination in the Fleurieu Peninsula this summer.
