FIRST LOOK: New hawker-style Asian eatery Lucky Dumpling & Noodle opens in North Adelaide

A new cosy Asian eatery called Lucky Dumpling and Noodle has just opened outside the bustling city of North Adelaide.

Say hello to Lucky Dumpling & Noodle, a new cosy Asian eatery nestled in North Adelaide.

The restaurant offers up a Malaysian hawker-inspired menu, influenced by owner Mr. Khaw’s upbringing in South East Asia. Using influences from traditional Malaysian cuisine, the menu impresses with its range of easily sharable dishes and fair pricing – nothing is over $20.

“[Pricing is important] in this climate where a lot of people are stressing about the cost of living. We are trying our best to provide [quality] food with the freshest ingredients, all for a reasonable price,” Lucky Dumpling & Noodle representative Sharlin says.

The restaurant’s interior is a stunning fusion of industrial chic and contemporary design. Upon entering, guests are greeted by a high bar-style seating arrangement in the front room with round lights adorning the concrete walls, creating a warm ambiance that contrasts beautifully with the bright geometric patterns on the opposite wall. The sleek wooden floors complete the modern yet inviting atmosphere.

As you pass through an arch-style door, you’ll discover a lower seating area, providing an intimate and relaxed dining experience where you can also enjoy the star of the show—the food!

The menu boasts an array of dishes, with an emphasis on delectable dumplings and tantalising noodle options. The flavours are deeply rooted in Malaysian cuisine, taking diners on a journey through the vibrant streets of Asia.

An exciting feature of Lucky Dumpling & Noodle is the open view of the dumpling-making process, visible from behind the bar. Watching the skilled hands craft these delights adds an extra touch of authenticity to the dining experience.

“It’s important for people to know [and see that] we make everything fresh here at the restaurant. You can’t find our dumplings anywhere else. We are also planning to sell some of our dumplings in frozen packages so you can bring our lovely flavours home with you,” Sharlin says.

“Our dumplings are very popular. My personal favourite would be the beef dumpling with grilled cheese and kimchi, it’s just so special and the layers of flavour is just amazing.”

Other dumpling flavours include lamb and leek, pork and cabbage, chicken and cabbage and its popular Pork Xiao long bao (soup dumplings).

For noodle enthusiasts, Lucky Dumpling & Noodle presents a range of enticing choices, such as prawn and chicken wonton soup, honey charsiew pork tossed noodles, beef kway teow, and seafood wat tan hor (egg gravy rice noodles). The restaurant’s dedication to using fresh, quality ingredients is evident in every dish, resulting in a harmonious blend of taste and texture.

Among the highlights of the menu is the Beef Rendang with rice, a culinary masterpiece that leaves diners craving for more. The slow-cooked tender beef is marinated to perfection, creating a melt-in-your-mouth texture infused with a burst of rich flavours.
