Adelaide’s inner northern suburbs have just welcomed a new player for noodle lovers, and it’s one that leans heavily into tradition, theatre, and hot, comforting bowls.

Legend Lanzhou Beef Noodle has just opened its latest location, the third for the brand, in Kilburn’s Churchill Centre, bringing its signature hand-pulled noodles and rich, slow-simmered broths to a new pocket of the city. Built around centuries-old techniques, the brand centres on noodles made from recipes that are time-tested and refined through generations.

“Legend Lanzhou Beef Noodle is Adelaide’s first Halal beef noodle brand, with the flagship store located at 108 Gouger St, Adelaide, 5000, second store located at Shop 8, 167 Glynburn Rd Firle 5070,” the team shared.

“The brand is owned by Alex Yang and Eric, a team with decades of hospitality and restaurant operation experience. We are very passionate about bringing authentic and efficient dining experiences to the local market.”

The concept itself is rooted in one of China’s most iconic dishes. Lanzhou beef noodles are a signature style of noodle originating from Lanzhou in the Gansu province of China.

“The idea came from a simple goal: to bring authentic Lanzhou hand-pulled beef noodles to Australia in a way that keeps both the traditional craftsmanship and the freshness of the dish,” the team tells us. “Lanzhou beef noodles are a big part of Chinese food culture, and we wanted more people here to experience noodles made fresh by hand, with a rich broth base and fast service.”

At the Kilburn location, that experience is front and centre. The space leans into an open kitchen format, where diners can watch chefs stretch, pull, and transform dough into noodles in real time.

“This location represents another important step for our brand. Brand new design style. What makes it special is the stronger presentation of our open kitchen concept, where customers can directly watch the noodle-making process. Introducing the experience to a new group of customers and continuing to grow the brand with a more refined store design and service model.”

And while the visuals are part of the draw, it all comes back to what’s in the bowl.

“We use best ingredients and meat source, to balance the whole bowl, soup is clear but flavoured beef bone marrow broth, the handmade noodles, the tender beef, and the freshness of the herbs and toppings. It is a dish that looks simple, but in reality every part needs to work together perfectly.”

The signature soup is where most people will start, and for good reason.

“Chef’s special braised beef noodle soupx and signature beef noodle soup are top sellers. The signature starts with a prepared beef bone marrow broth that is cooked over 8 hours to develop a deep, clean flavour. Chef’s special braised beef noodle soup is made by our head chef, and we highly recommend it. From there, the noodles are hand-pulled fresh to order by our chefs, which is one of the most important parts of the experience. We then combine the broth, noodles, beef, and selected toppings together to create a bowl that is comforting, balanced, and true to the Lanzhou style.”

Beyond the hero dishes, the menu shows just how much range there is within the format. There are dry noodle options like braised lamb chuck and chilli beef, cold noodles dressed in sesame and chilli oil, and richer, slow-cooked soups like beef rib noodle soup.

You’ll also find stir-fried options, cumin lamb noodles, and more indulgent dishes like dry pot duck and lamb ribs. On the side, things branch out with spicy ox tripe, shredded potato salad, and crispy prawns with wasabi, giving you plenty to mix and match depending on how hungry you are.

“This will be our flagship store. We want the restaurant to feel welcoming, energetic, and authentic — a place where people can enjoy high quality food in a casual and lively setting. Since the soft opening, the response has been very encouraging. We are happy to see interest from returning customers and new visitors.”
