ODÉ, North Adelaide’s newest foodie hotspot, is bringing the elegance mixed with the fun spirit of a bistro to O’Connell Street. It officially opens its doors to the public on Thursday 19th January.

Behind the creation of this new bistro is none other than Simon Ming, a renowned culinary virtuoso known for his exceptional talents in the foodie world. Formerly the Head Chef at Jolley’s Boathouse, Simon brings with him an impressive resume, having been an integral part of the core teams at iconic restaurants like Orana and Arkhè.

Collaborating with him is the award-winning Sommelier Bhatia Dheeraj, known for his exceptional wine expertise that has graced Michelin-starred restaurants across the globe.

Simon, who was awarded a Top 10 spot in the renowned San Pellegrino Young Chef Academy competition in 2022, is excited to welcome ODÉ to North Adelaide.

“We’re here to introduce people to our unique vision of dining and invite them to embark on a culinary journey,” Simon explains.

“ODÉ is a place where elegance meets the casual and fun spirit of a bistro…we’ve created a welcoming space where guests can enjoy a sophisticated meal without the pretentiousness of haute cuisine, and where you can let your hair down and have a great time.”

Central to ODÉ’s allure is its distinctive menu, meticulously curated to showcase a medley of global cuisines. This reflects the universal experiences of the restaurant’s qualified staff. Simon elaborates, “Our menu is a testament to the cultural melting pot that defines our nation, celebrating the diversity of modern Australia, where each dish and ingredient tells a story.”

In line with ODÉ’s commitment to locality and sustainability, the restaurant places a strong emphasis on sourcing seasonal, local produce while incorporating indigenous Australian ingredients.

This conscientious approach results in dishes that both honour the land and celebrate its riches using produce such as bush tomato, quandongs, and a twist on the classic French beurre blanc sauce by adding eucalyptus.

“At the heart of ODÉ, we respect the classic techniques and flavors that have stood the test of time and infuse them with a contemporary twist, particularly using the flavors and techniques from French, Spanish, and modern Asian cuisines,” Simon adds.

The menu boasts a plethora of highlights, including the “fish en papillote,” a flamed shallot pancake infused with spiced yoghurt and Sichuan peppercorn, and torched Hiramasa kingfish accompanied by celtuce, celery, tomato consommé, and apple granita.

The crab udon featuring cherry tomato basil, cured yolks, and Sichuan crispy chili oil promises a burst of flavours. Additionally, traditional and eucalyptus beurre blanc and beef tartare nduja with quandongs, pearl onion, and potato chips round off the culinary journey.

“This global outlook adds exciting dimensions to our menu, introducing our guests to flavours and combinations that they may have never experienced before,” Simon says.

Complementing the eclectic menu is ODÉ’s impressive wine list, meticulously crafted by the renowned Sommelier, Bhatia Dheeraj. Bhatia, who earned the title of “Best Sommelier” at the Singapore World Gourmet Summit in 2011, and was awarded the 2019 Australia’s Wine List of the Year and the prestigious Judy Hirst award, takes pride in offering a dynamic selection of wines that strike a harmonious balance between Australian and international varieties. With a particular focus on Champagne and Old-World classics, Bhatia has created an exquisite wine program that stands out in South Australia.

“We take immense pride in providing premium international wines at retail prices, a distinctive offering that sets us apart in South Australia. Our aim is to extend an invitation to the community, inviting them to savour luxury at an approachable price point,” Bhatia says.

Adding to the beverage experience at ODÉ is Max Aklan, the General Manager and Resident Sommelier. Hailing from the heart of Piedmont near the Barolo region, Max brings a wealth of international hospitality experience and a deep-rooted passion for wine and mixology to the table.

The cocktail list at ODÉ pays homage to classics, skillfully infusing traditional spirits to craft inventive variations. Guests can delight in offerings like the Bulvardier, Aldinga Spritz, Bloody Maria, and more.

Beyond its delectable menu and exceptional beverages, ODÉ promises an intimate setting characterised by rich greens, moody lighting, and bespoke wooden features, all complemented by a Venetian plaster finish.

“Whether you’re a seasoned food enthusiast or simply looking for a memorable night out, we invite you to join us at ODÉ for a dining experience that is beyond,” Simon says.
