Nestled on the beautiful Murray River in South Australia’s Riverland region, Berri is renowned for its agriculture and viticulture. It’s no surprise then, that Berri’s new restaurant Earth, has a passion for showcasing the Riverland’s finest produce.
Owned by residents Peter and Lyn Kent, Earth has created an innovative and local dining experience for those in the community and tourists passing through.
“We have been based in the Riverland for 23 years, and have both been working as chefs for 35 years. For the past 17 years we have run our own catering company (salt and pepper catering) and a year ago we decided we should open our own restaurant,” owner Peter says.
“We have a passion for local food and great respect for the local producers. The good thing being in small regional towns is we also know the producers which is a benefit when they have any new produce or products.”
That local knowledge comes out in the carefully curated menu, with a delicious wine and cocktail list to match. The new winter menu is launching this week with snacks and a full dine-in quality menu to match.
Start with an entree of Quail, Spencer gulf prawns, or Beef fillet tartare before moving on to a main of Beef fillet 250g, Whole Coorong flounder, Potato gnocchi, or lamb. There’s also bread, sides and a whole heap of other thought-out dishes to choose from.
End the night with a sweet treat of lemon curd brulee tart with spiced mandarin sorbet, quince with black fig panna cotta and almond milk or a chocolate brownie with poached pear and merlot gelato.
The restaurant’s motto is “life is but a speck of time on Earth: live it now” and you’ll certainly be able to do that with good food and drink at Earth.
