FIRST LOOK: New east end restaurant OZIN set to pair local produce with international flavours

The east end is getting a brand new eatery, and it will be setting your tastebuds on a journey throughout the world.

The east end is getting a brand new eatery, and it will be setting your taste buds on a journey throughout the world. OZIN is set to serve up quality fine dining matched with a welcoming style of service. With an experienced front-of-house team and an accomplished kitchen, this new restaurant is looking to serve up diners an absolute treat. While the venue will look to have a soft opening this Friday January 17, the official grand opening date is still under wraps – but expect it soon!

Co-owner, Neeraj Kumar, said the restaurant has been a long time coming and he can’t wait to open to the public. The venue’s opening has been long awaited, especially because the owners are aiming for absolute perfection with everything they do! OZIN first announced it was joining the east end on December 1st, with social media posts unveiling its sleek, gilded logo. The detached line of the O in the restaurant’s brand mark (as seen on exterior windows) represents “service with a smile, no matter what.”

In fact, everything about the fit-out matches its branding. The interior offers a polished feel, with a fresh, airy atmosphere. The opulent windows welcome sunlight in for a cosy, spacious ambiance, perfect for casual fine dining. The restaurant is located in a heritage property on East Terrace built in the 1920s, and both inside and out reflect this character.

The OZIN dining experience will showcase a fresh take on fusion, which explores the best of the world’s cuisines while using local, South Australian ingredients. There will be a conscious effort to focus on South Australian ingredients and wines – and why would you look past SA when it already offers the best of the best!

The distinguishing feature, however, is OZIN’s focal point on charcoal cooking. Rich, charcoal flavours will underscore the restaurant’s diverse and unique menu bringing its new signature flavour. Immensely experienced head chef Vicky leads the operation. Chef Vicky boasts 25 years in the industry with experience across India, Germany, Dubai, Kuwait, and Australia.

The restaurant will also pay close attention to its drinks list, with an impressive variety of local wines from the likes of Mt Bera and a list of expertly crafted cocktails to add to the experience. The cocktail list is highly elevated and designed to match each dish seamlessly. Expertly mixed cocktails are primed to elevate the flavours of the meal, creating a harmony of smoky, bold, and refreshing.

Just over a decade ago, co-owner Neeraj Kumar arrived in Adelaide with a dream and a just a couple of suitcases. He now considers Adelaide his second home, where he has found his love, his mentors and his future.

Complete dedication led to Kumar learning a new language, completing a Masters in International Hospitality Management from Le Cordon Bleu, on top of an MBA all the while managing various hospitality venues and hotels across the state. It’s only fitting that after a decade is Adelaide, he opens his own restaurant.

“OZIN is more than just a restaurant,” Kumar said it’s an exploration of global culinary traditions, with a focus on high-quality local ingredients and the rich flavours that come from charcoal cooking.”

“It celebrates the diverse flavours of the world, while embracing Adelaide’s rich food culture, and a space that brings people together to share in something truly special. We offer both a cultural journey and a sensory delight.”

Adelaide’s east end, and especially East Terrace, has been a supercharged spot for popular restaurants, already boasting two of SA’s most popular spots in Africola and Golden Boy. Late January will also see the opening of East Asian bistro and cocktail bar, Monica. OZIN will be the newest face on the block!

As East Terrace continues to heat up with new culinary gems, OZIN’s global flavours and local heart aim to light up Adelaide’s dining scene. Keep an eye out for updates on the opening.
