FIRST LOOK: OzAsia Festival’s Lucky Dumpling Market kicks off in the CBD

For those who enjoy authentic Asian delicacies, this market is nothing short of paradise.

Adelaide’s Elder Park is set to come alive with the aromas and sounds of Asia once again.

Starting Thursday, 19th October and spanning three weekends until Sunday, 5th November, the much-anticipated Lucky Dumpling Market is back for its seventh year. And guess what? Entry is absolutely free!

For those who enjoy authentic Asian delicacies, this market is nothing short of paradise. From mouth-watering dumplings to refreshing bubble tea, and from hearty noodles to spicy curries, there’s something to satiate every palate. And if last year’s record of 316,000 dumplings consumed by 212,000 attendees is anything to go by, this year promises to be even bigger and better.

Delivered with love by the team behind the lively Adelaide Fringe hub, Gluttony, Lucky Dumpling Market has become a landmark event alongside the annual OzAsia Festival program – catering to the city’s ever-expanding palate with options for meat-lovers, seafood- fans, vegetarians, and vegans.

This year, the market is upping the ante with the introduction of three new food vendors, adding to its already impressive list of over 20. Making their debut are Aromalay, offering delectable Malaysian desserts, and Mr Wonton, a culinary venture by renowned Adelaide chef Ragini Dey and her son Chiragh.

But the market isn’t just about food. The revamped Sake Bar, with its traditional Japanese shou sugi ban exterior, promises to be a crowd-puller. For those looking for other drink options, the Tanqueray Bar, Coopers Bar, and Jungle Coffee Bar have got you covered.

Last year’s Lucky Dumpling Market saw around 212,000 people soak up the vibrant atmosphere of this shady, open-air hub on the sun-kissed banks of the River Torrens, and an incredible 316,000 dumplings devoured! Organisers are gearing up for an equally ravenous crowd in 2023 and have added three tempting new food offerings to a line-up of 20+ vendors.

Lucky Dumpling market co event director Elena Kirschbaum. “Every year the South Australian community embraces Lucky Dumpling Market in its arms and we’re always looking at ways to make their experience even better.”

“We encourage people to pop into Lucky Dumpling Market Tuesday to Thursday, as the space is a little more chilled out through the week and you’ll be tucking into your favourite delectable delights in no time at all!”

Complementing the extensive food and drink offering will be sweet live tunes programmed by OzAsia Festival and performed on the ‘Lucky Beats’ stage, colourful dance and music activations celebrating Asian culture, face painting, and henna tattoos.
