The kids have been on holidays for a couple of weeks. They’re running amuck. They’ve got energy to burn, and you’re running out of ideas. Sound familiar?
Enter, the new and improved Penfold Park in Magill which, following a major restoration, is open just in time for the festive season.
The highlight is a brand new, expanded playground, decked out with some epic equipment. There’s a huge, twisting tube slide, a range of swings, climbing ropes, monkey bars and a flying fox.

Councilor Henry Lloyd Davis, who oversaw the project during his time on the Burnside City Council, says that the main focus of the project was bringing nature-inspired elements to the site.
“The original park was made exclusively from plastic and steel, but children are actually drawn to natural materials. So, we tried to include as many of these kinds of elements as possible into the design, and you can really see that in the wooden structures, logs and rocks,” says Davis.

Whilst the playground has been completed, there are plans in place to continue the refurbishment of the park.
“There’s still more to come. Multipurpose courts, more trees, more shade. It’s a cracker, and it’s going to get even better,” he says.
The restoration has also paved the way for new picnic tables, barbecues and rotundas which are situated throughout the park, making it a perfect location for a family gathering.

Penfold Park Playground is located just down the road from Penfolds Cellar Door, nestled just off the top of Magill Road and a short walk from the Tower Hotel.
Named after Christopher Penfold, founder of the famous winery, Penfold Park is a little bit of history, and a whole lot of fun.
The newly upgraded Penfold Park Playground is located at 591 The Parade, Magill.
