Collinswood is welcoming a sweet new Indian dining addition to its list of popular hotels and locally-loved takeaway joints. Radhe Sweets and Veg Restaurant opened its doors on Wednesday 7 January with an impressive menu full of Indian vegetarian classics and traditional desserts.
As a family-run operation, Chawan Yadav and Hitesh Kumar are behind the new venture, along with their daughter Kanika Yadav.
“Everything happened so quickly, we decided to take on the restaurant on December 20, and from then on we’ve been painting, decorating and cleaning to get it up and running,” Kanika said. “Our whole family is vegetarian, so it made sense to create something we’re used to.”
“I think a lot of Indian people do look for pure veg restaurants, and it’s really hard to find nice vegetarian food.”
The name is inspired by Radhe, an Indian goddess symbolising love, devotion and bliss, which is exactly what the family wanted to represent within their new space. The whole vibe of the restaurant is centred around Radhe, with her signature colours pink and yellow being filtered throughout the interior design.
“The energy is feminine in a very empowering way.”
The pink is powerful but not overwhelming as the smell of fresh sweets and pastries swirl throughout the small but comfortable space.

On the menu you’ll find popular vegetarian curries like Daal Tadka, okra and cashew Masala, Paneer Butter Masala, and a range of other paneer dishes. For something light, opt for a Thali plate with roti, rice, and raita. There are a whole lot more street food options available including lentil dumplings, samosa, and Tawa Tikki potato patties.
“Our sweets chef makes them fresh by hand, without any machines, which a lot of Indian sweets are made from, but he makes them the authentic way,” Kanika said.
There are five traditional sweet dishes on offer. Indulge in a classic Indian carrot halwa slow-cooked in ghee, or let the Gulaab Jamun soft milk dumplings or Rasmalai saffron-milk dumplings melt in your mouth. For the hotter weather, Kulfi Indian ice-creams are the fix, with mango, malai and pistachio flavours on offer.

It’s not just a restaurant for vegetarians; the menu contains a range of drinks that are perfect for these hot summer days. “A lot of Indian restaurants don’t do smoothies, juices and milkshakes, but we hope to add that in to set us apart from others,” Kanika said.
The juices will be made from the freshest ingredients, not frozen fruits from shelves, but colourful fresh fruit from markets and stalls. It’s the perfect spot for busy commuters wanting a cold drink on the way to work, or passing by for an on-the-go coffee.
The restaurant joins a block of takeaways across from the Walkers Arms Hotel and down the road from the current ABC Adelaide building. Moving in next to Collinswood Chicken and Seafood, 41A North East Road is the former home of Thai Gourmet.
