FIRST LOOK: Reggie’s Detroit pizza officially opens in Goodwood

Got the craving for good Detroit style pizza? Well you’re in luck because Goodwood’s newest resident Reggie’s Detroit pizza has officially opened.

Goodwood are you in the mood for some good, Detroit style pizza? Well you’re in luck because Reggie’s Detroit Pizza officially opened this month.

Reggie’s will be serving up 10-inch square pizzas which are not only slightly deeper than deep-dish but with the ingredients going right to the edge so there’s no boring crusts.

Detroit-style pizza is traditionally a rectangular pan pizza with a thick, crisp, chewy crust. It was developed during the mid-20th century in Detroit, Michigan, and is now a popular dish all around the world.

The team took over the tenancy from Suburban Brew taphouse, who are nestled to the side and back of the Goodwood location over a year ago, ensuring keen craft beer goers have some food to accompany a cold brew.

Co-owner of The Suburban Brew Troy Brailsford said it was an exciting time for both businesses.

“People seemed excited when they opened on Thursday, they can finally enjoy a cold beer and a slice of pizza,” Troy said.

“Things were kept pretty lowkey but we’re ready to ramp things up now and let people come in and enjoy it all, the places will co-exists really well.”

If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by the thought of deep dish pizza and all that comes with it, don’t stress. The menu will have a traditional element, there’s the signature characteristics of the Detroit Red Stripe which is light and airy pizza crust, mozzarella, and a zesty pizza sauce, but there will be more options available for those game enough.

The space was previously occupied by tattoo The Paper Moon Collective before the space became available. While the Suburban Brew crew were looking extended their seating area, they realised the customers were craving something more.

“We noticed early on that people were seeking a food option here. At one stage we were offering Uber Eats and we were taking on the delivery costs, but longer term we knew we had to source some in-house food options,” Troy said.

With their first weekend under their belt, patrons are crowning the slices as “some of the best pizzas in Adelaide” taking to the pizzeria’s instagram to express their gratitude of their new local.
