FIRST LOOK: Retro beachside hub Boomers Bar in Christies Beach expands with new kitchen extension

Retro beachside hub Boomers Bar in Christies Beach is levelling up with the launch of Boomers Bar and Kitchen – and the kitchen part is opening next week!

Boomers Bar in Christies Beach has been the ultimate beachside hangout since opening 18 months ago, oozing with groovy, retro, feel-good vibes. Now, the venue is raising the bar with the launch of Boomers Bar and Kitchen – and the kitchen part is opening next week on Tuesday December 10th.

If you’ve ever walked into Boomers Bar, you know it’s like stepping into a time machine, straight to the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Located on Beach Road, the retro bar was brought to life by local legends Andrew and Shelley. Before opening Boomers in 2023, they found there wasn’t a laid-back, funky hangout bar they were looking for in the south, so they decided to create one themselves.

With the brand-new kitchen extension, Boomers Bar is officially transforming into Boomers Bar and Kitchen. Starting this Tuesday, you’ll be able to swing by midday and enjoy fresh baguettes for lunch, followed by platters in the evening. They’ll also be serving up cakes and desserts, but it’s all about super chill vibes. You can grab a milkshake and enjoy it with your platter, or choose a glass of wine to drink with your cake – whatever you feel like. With the bar opening at 3pm, everything comes together into one epic business – food, drinks, and good vibes all in one place.

When it comes to drinks, you can expect everything from local beers and wines to a full cocktail and spirits menu. Plus, they have some fun and quirky drinks on offer, like liqueur coffees, alcoholic spiders (perfect for summer), and mulled wine to warm you up in winter. As Shelly says, “It’s a massive offering for a small bar.”

Step inside, and you’ll be instantly transported to a funky time warp. With its vivid colours, plush velvet couches, and vintage armchairs, the interior is a mix of nostalgia. Shelly describes it as “an old-fashioned speakeasy vibe,” with one room channeling the 70s and 80s and the kitchen area pulling inspiration from the 40s.

“We kind of wanted people to feel like that they’ve walked into grandmas house the day after Christmas, but it’s a funky grandmas house,” Shelly says. “It’s that old, velvet furniture and lamps everywhere. People come in and sit, and they’ll stay for hours and just be like… ‘I feel like I’m at home’.”

Boomers Bar and Kitchen also has a huge selection of board games and card games to keep guests entertained. The venue regularly hosts open mic nights, DJs, and quirky little bands, to make sure there’s always something fun happening. “Everything has got to be a bit out of the ordinary for us,” Shelly says. “It’s very colourful.”

You might remember that the space was originally set to be home to Good Karma Coffee Bar, but after some time, it became clear it wasn’t quite the right fit. Instead, the owners of Boomers Bar have created a space where coffee, cocktails, and good times can all exist in harmony.

Boomers Bar and Kitchen officially opens this Tuesday and will be serving up lunch from 12pm every Tuesday through Sunday. The bar will be open from 3pm until late, Wednesday through Sunday. If you’re a fan of quirky bars with a killer retro vibe – now paired with a fantastic kitchen – Boomers Bar and Kitchen is the place to be starting next week!
