Whilst many cafes, pubs and restaurants across town turned toward takeaway and delivery in recent times, others including one of our faves, Roxie’s in Grenfell Street, took a different approach.
Coming off a hugely busy mad-March, where the popular bar was home of the Fringe Club again, the team at Roxie’s redirected their skills into becoming venue renovators once the shutdown came into effect.
“There were so many jobs we’d been meaning to get around to but just never had the time’ said Patrick Allan, Group Operations Manager.
“The COVID19 shutdown ironically gave us all the time we needed to become carpenters, painters, plasterers, gardeners and general handymen and women. Fringe was exhausting so we had a little time off afterwards then took the approach that we’d keep our staff on board to help us prepare to re-open with the best product we could possibly present. Though the venue remains physically the same with those great booths, the brickwork, plants and casually cool outdoor vibe, we’ve sanded, planted, painted, plastered and more – Roxie’s has had a complete makeover and looks totally refreshed” he said.
In some welcome news amid the rennos, Roxie’s Deli has been included and will remain a permanent fixture. You’ll be able to grab a coffee, sandwiches, pasta, jars of those famous Midnight Spaghetti sauces and thanks to an exciting collaboration with Ambleside Distillers, a range of takeaway cocktails – stand by for more news shortly.
Not content however with giving just Roxie’s a makeover, the team also took to the Chateau Apollo with a vengeance and applied their new-found skills with a heap of hard work, sweat and buckets of love. The fabulous function space looks stunning with among other things, freshly polished concrete floors just waiting to be danced upon till the wee hours.
There’s lots of exciting news to come, none more so than the new Roxie’s menu that just oozes love from days gone by – and yes that’s a hint that will soon become apparent!
Roxies Deli will reopen on June 1, and the bar and kitchen will follow on June 8.
