Hahndorf’s Main Street has a new café on the block and it’s a local sanctuary with coffee to boot.
Same But Different is a brand new, family-oriented café where the simple food and delicious coffee has already proven a hit with the locals.
The coffee brew uses mouth-watering beans from Dawn Patrol Cafe, a local roasters in McLaren Vale. The coffee is unmatched; it’s dark, caffeinated goodness. And that’s not all. There are a range of delicious juices, smoothies, and bagels available too, including the highly-popular ‘loaded breakkie bagel’, stacked with bacon, egg, cheese, lettuce and a hash brown.
After working in hospitality for 25 years, Founder Kellie Hunter says that opening the café was her natural next step.
“I started my hospitality career in Hahndorf at the The German Arms when I was 18, and since then I have been working there on and off, working with amazing people and businesses” she says.
“Opening Same But Different was just one of those things. Last month the property became available and we jumped at it. Everything lined up at the right moment.”
And how funky is the name? Theres’s a story behind that, too. Hunter’s identical twin girls, who are the ‘same but different’, are the driving force behind the venture.
“They’re really part of the reason they took it on so I wanted them to be incorporated in some way. And what better way than the name?” Kellie said.
At the heart of Same But Different is Hahndorf. Kellie’s neighbourhoods, friends, family and community.
“I’ve built amazing relationship with business owners and locals over the last 25 years. Starting this café was a massive effort from my friends, family and my team. I couldn’t have done it without them, so I want to give back now.”
The community spirit doesn’t stop there. Kellie invited local business Roots and Reasons to display and sell a whole host of beautiful floral arrangements in the store, which add to the café’s charm.
Same But Different is open 7 days a week. You can find it at 79 Mount Barker Road, Hahndorf.
