It’s been a long sixteen months for the Saray family since a suspicious blaze gutted their Henley Beach Road kebab house in the early hours, leaving their “hearts heavy” and the business in ashes. Adding to the heartbreak, it was just the year before that the family moved the business from its original location next door to accommodate its mass following.
Ramadan passed. The winter chill and its craving for chargrilled proteins and hearty soul food also lapsed. But it’s not all doom and gloom. The family have stayed committed to the restaurant’s revival since the news broke, even continuing to operate their neighbouring supermarket in the process. Now, the kebab house – its crispy falafel, sumptuous sweets and succulent lamb shish – is on the cusp of a triumphant return. And it’s promising even more of the good stuff.

“This time last year, we faced one of the hardest moments in our journey,” the family shared online. “But from the ashes, we’ve rebuilt not just a restaurant, but a stronger, more passionate version of who we are.”
They also thanked the loyal fan base who never let them lose hope. “To our beautiful customers who stood by us, checked in on us, and reminded us of the love this community holds, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your support gave us the strength to keep going,” they added.

And while the official reopening date remains tightly under wraps, the family has given a first look at the glow-up inside – and it looks very, very close. Colourful mosaic lamps and Turkish accents celebrate the family’s heritage, cushioned blue-leather seating pops against sleek lines, and brass and marble finishes lend an elevated air to the familiar warmth.

Adelaide already has an appetite for its renaissance. The comments are flooding in. “Amazing. I was wondering what had happened to this place!,” shared a fan. “Literally talked about how sad I was we couldn’t have dinner here tonight… awesome to hear! You have been missed,” said another.
So as we patiently wait for a Turkish tea and baklava fix or that late-night mixed meat platter that cures all, we’ll be refreshing our feeds like hawks. Because not long now, Adelaide. Saray Kebab House is almost back, stronger and hungrier than ever.
“Thank you all for your patience and kind wishes,” they added. “We can’t wait to welcome you all again.”
