FIRST LOOK: SA’s only fully organic retailer, House of Health Collective, opens new suburban store

Expanding from its current home at the Adelaide Central Market, the new store has more products as well as the addition of a full café and wellness space.

It’s been a staple on the Adelaide food scene for almost 50 years and now, popular organic wholefoods store, House of Health Collective, is set to open a second store in Norwood.

Expanding from its current home at the Adelaide Central Market, the new suburban store will have more space, allowing for a greater number of products as well as the addition of a full café and wellness space.

Co-owner, Alex Oulianoff, says the suburban expansion was a long time coming, but further encouraged by changing habits in a post-pandemic world.

“It has been extremely rewarding to see a shift towards prioritising products that support immunity, general well-being and sustainability,” says Alex.

“It has been great during this period to aid in educating consumers the virtues of buying in bulk – By only buying what they need provides benefit to not only them but also the environment.”

Understood to be Australia’s longest-running certified organic retailer and the state’s only 100 per cent certified organic retailer, House of Health Collective is one of Australia’s largest bulk food stores.

The Norwood store will have all the great products you know and love but will also foster a greater focus on specialty lifestyle and wellness products including journals to foster mindful personal growth, as well as products aiding in ritual and meditation practice. Community groups will be able to use the wellness space for a wide range of purposes, to encourage an inclusive local environment.

In line with the store opening, the business has also launched a new customer loyalty program whereby consumers will be rewarded with significant discounts for their regular weekly shop.

Co-owner, Rob Frank, says, “it was important to us that we developed a program that rewarded our loyal customers but also benefited the environment.

“The loyalty program provides incentives to customers for making regular purchases and encourages them to use less packaging with rewards for them when they bring in their own containers,” says Rob.

It is an exciting development for House of Health Collective, which has been in business for nearly 50 years by building strong relationships with suppliers and maintaining a loyal customer base.

With humble beginnings in 1973, the two separate businesses of House of Health and Central Organic merged to become a collective in recent years, seeing a renewed success with a modern, revamped Adelaide Central Market stall in 2019.

Co-owner, Ivan Oulianoff, says outlining the expansion allows their reputation for affordable wholefoods to continue. “Our mission is to further the accessibility of healthy and sustainable products to the community,” Ivan says.

“We champion local producers and growers and operate on a plastic-free philosophy. Over the past 50 years, our customers have shown that it is possible and very affordable to be plastic free, and it is our hope with our new expanded store that we can continually raise awareness.”

As well as bulk offerings the new House of Health Collective will have a ‘grab and go’ counter serving with the likes of chia puddings, granola pots, and vegan pastries.

The new House of Health will open its doors on Friday 16th December 2022.
