A heritage-listed, 170-year-old train station reopened its doors, but what’s moved in feels anything but old-fashioned.
Sharehouse, a new artist-led creative hub, is opening inside the State Heritage-listed North Adelaide Railway Station, transforming the 1857 Victorian-style cottage into a living, breathing mix of art, vintage clothes shopping, coffee, beauty and community-led creativity.

Set along War Memorial Drive in the western parklands, the station had sat dormant since 2019. Now, it’s home to seven local artists: Alycia Bennett, Liv Bellow, Florian Cinco, Claude Creighton, Anri Mau, Anna O’Loughlin and Mark Valenzuela, each bringing their own practice into a shared space that refuses to sit in one category.
Inside, Sharehouse is a curated gallery, artist studio, concept store, vinyl and vintage shop, event space, coffeehouse and beauty studio. You might arrive for a drip coffee and end up browsing records, watching a screen-printing demo, or booking in for nail art, a haircut or tooth gems.

For Alycia, the project builds on years of artist-run initiatives across Adelaide, including Sister Gallery and Negative Space. “We’ve all had parts in running different types of events and projects over the years, but this is the first time all seven of us have collaborated together,” she says. “Now we’re excited to be able to continue that work with new collaborations, but also with a series of our own artist practices through our small business enterprises.”
Alycia herself runs Extra Hard Nails from the space, sharing a studio with Cut Sick, while other rooms house a community screen-printing studio, gallery and event areas. “It’s about being able to realise community projects and exchanges, while also being sustainable and having our own small business practices,” she explains.

The fit-out has intentionally worked with the building rather than against it. “Because it’s a heritage site, it needs to stay and keep the history of the building,” Alycia says. “We’re really just working with what’s already here. It’s such a beautiful building.” Inside, original architectural features remain intact, with artists occupying each room in ways that feel organic.
Sharehouse opens Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm, with specialty filter drip coffee served daily, records spinning, retail spaces open and room to sit, work or linger. “People can come in, have a coffee, sit down with their laptop, listen to some records and just relax a little,” Alycia says.

Appointments run alongside casual drop-ins, and the team is already eyeing extended Friday nights and future licensing to activate the space even further. “We’d love to open later on Fridays and really activate this side of the tracks,” Alycia says. “There’s such a strong local community here, and we want families, neighbours and passers-by to feel welcome to get involved.”
The space is in a soft opening phase before officially opening on Saturday 7 February. The official launch (housewarming) will featuring screen-printing demos where you can bring your own t-shirt and print on the spot. “Because a few of us are screen printers, we’ll be running demos on the day so people can bring something along and print their own Sharehouse piece,” Alycia says.

The launch will also comprise nail art and haircut demos, specialty coffee cupping, vinyl listening sessions and first access to the concept store, gallery and studios. As the day rolls into night, DJs, live performances and music will take over.
The project has been made possible through a partnership with the City of Adelaide and Renew Adelaide, marking Renew’s 330th supported venture.
“I think [what’s most exciting] is the collaboration between the artists and practitioners involved,” Alycia says. “When you’re collaborating with different people, you’re always going to have different outcomes. Having space for artists to do things in a last-minute kind of way is really exciting, because the outcomes are raw, pure and passionate.”
