FIRST LOOK: Shingleback’s new rustic-style cellar door opens in McLaren Vale

Shingleback has officially unveiled its refurbished cellar door in McLaren Vale with a rustic-style feel with premium touches.

In the heart of South Australia’s renowned McLaren Vale wine region, Shingleback, a name synonymous with tradition and excellence, has officially unveiled its refurbished cellar door.

For a quarter of a century, Shingleback has been crafting wines that capture the essence of McLaren Vale – its long sun-drenched days, ancient earth, and the dedication of its hardworking farmers and growers. Now, this commitment to tradition and excellence is mirrored in the stunning renovation of its cellar door.

“The blend of contemporary refinement and rich history provides the perfect environment to begin a journey into wine and our world-renowned wine region,” Monique Pienaar, Direct Marketing Manager at Shingleback, says.

“We aim to offer a friendly, relaxed, and striking setting, portraying the true character of McLaren Vale hospitality.”

The refurbishment, directed by Ella Horne, Interior Design Manager of Total Fitouts Adelaide Central, has created a cellar door with original rustic walls, textures, and colours that have been carefully preserved. At the same time, premium and luxurious touches have been added to reflect the brand’s style.

The first phase of the renovation, completed in August 2023, focused on enhancing the internal and all-weather areas, including a polished stone bar and expanded vineyard views. The second phase will expand the garden picnic area, offering a perfect setting for summer events and live music.

At Shingleback’s newly transformed cellar door, guests are welcomed to explore an array of tasting experiences. The “choose your wine journey” is a unique offering that allows adventurous wine lovers to explore the diverse Shingleback portfolio. For those seeking guidance, structured wine flights showcasing the best varietals and styles are available.

To complement the tasting experience, wine-matched grazing platters featuring a variety of cheeses and delectable charcuterie are offered, providing an opportunity to enhance the visit further.

Shingleback has always been deeply intertwined with McLaren Vale’s heritage, and the refurbished cellar door beautifully bridges the gap between the region’s rich history and its modern-day innovation.

The building itself is steeped in history, dating back to the 1800s when it was constructed by the original McLaren Vale residents, the Alderseys.

The Aldersey Farm and its estates underwent several ownership changes before being lovingly restored to become the Shingleback cellar door in 2007. In 2023, nearly two decades later, Shingleback proudly showcases the new cellar door while preserving the unique history that they are a part of.

This transformation marks a new chapter in Shingleback’s journey, inviting wine enthusiasts, connoisseurs, and curious wine drinkers to embark on an unforgettable exploration of McLaren Vale, one of Australia’s finest wine regions.

Nestled between the rolling Mount Lofty Ranges and the pristine beaches of Gulf St Vincent, McLaren Vale is a popular wine and food tourism destination.

Home to over 100 cellar doors and wineries, it boasts some of the world’s oldest grapevines and is the heart of South Australia’s wine industry. With its Mediterranean climate, McLaren Vale excels in producing ultra-premium Shiraz and Grenache, while also offering an array of Spanish and Italian varieties such as Fiano and Tempranillo.
