FIRST LOOK: Smiley’s Tuckshop opens at the Adelaide Central Market

Taking inspiration from milk bars and delis of past decades, Smiley’s specialises in ‘made to order’ meals that can be enjoyed on-the-go.

A brand-new eatery, Smiley’s Tuckshop, has opened at Stall 11 in the Adelaide Central Market.

Taking inspiration from milk bars and delis of past decades, Smiley’s specialises in ‘made to order’ meals that can be enjoyed on-the-go. The menu showcases products sourced from South Australia and the Market and includes house made bacon and egg rolls, meatball loaf subs, toasties and milkshakes made with Golden North ice cream.

For those with a sweet tooth, Smiley’s offers classic milk bar treats such as iced donuts, bags of mixed lollies and killer pythons. Customers can also enjoy a seasonal menu for Friday night dinner, which includes dishes like mac and cheese with peas and chilli con carne.

Adelaide Central Market Authority (ACMA) General Manager Jodie Kannane said the opening of Smiley’s brings a new offering to the Eastern roadway of the Market.

“We are really excited to welcome Smiley’s to Stall 11 with quick on-the-go options for Market customers. It’s a great way to showcase local produce and have an option for customers who want to eat whilst doing their weekly shop,” she said.

Owners Bill and Emma Howison from the popular House of Organics Stall said they are proud to open their second stall in the Market, providing a fast paced, ‘to-go’ stall that provides quality food and specialty modern coffee at fair prices.

“Smiley’s is all about producing nostalgia food – the classics you know and love and may not be able to find anymore. It’s full of flavour, grab and go style and at a reasonable cost,” said Mr Howison.

Smiley’s will be open for early breakfast from 6am, lunch and all-day dining and for dinner until 9pm on Friday nights. More details will be shared via the Adelaide Central Market and Smiley’s social media platforms – @adelcentralmarket and @smileystuckshop.

Established in 1869, the Adelaide Central Market has been a thriving hub of food and culture for over 150 years. With over 70 traders under one roof, the Adelaide Central Market is one of the largest undercover fresh produce markets in the southern hemisphere.
