FIRST LOOK: Taylors Wines unveils stunning multimillion dollar Cellar Door

Iconic SA label Taylors Wines, has unveiled its brand-new Clare Valley Cellar Door, marking a significant milestone in its rich history.

It’s the year of the winery.

In February, Bird In Hand reopened its stunning Cellar Door; in April, Shaw + Smith revealed its new tasting room; Nepenthe opened their new cellar door in May; and Yangarra revealed their stunning renovations in June.

And now, iconic SA label Taylors Wines, has unveiled its brand-new Clare Valley Cellar Door, marking a significant milestone in its rich history.

This multi-million dollar project, a collaboration between GP Architects, Cook Building, and Georgie Shepherd Interior Design, is a testament to the winery’s commitment to offering unparalleled wine tasting experiences.

Since its inception in 1969, Taylors Wines has been a haven for wine lovers. The new cellar door, an extension from the original homestead, represents the winery’s first major hospitality revamp.

Mitchell Taylor, the third-generation Winemaker and Managing Director said “This is the beginning of an exciting new era for our family winery. Every detail in the project is considered. The space truly reflects our family and the Taylors story.”

Visitors to the new cellar door are greeted by Taylors’ iconic three seahorse emblem, a nod to the family’s discovery of fossilised seahorses in the vineyard’s limestone bedrock over half a century ago.

Inside, the expansive tasting counter, equipped with Enomatic Wine Serving Systems, showcases Taylors’ finest wines. The main tasting room, adorned with a bronze-green tiled circular fireplace, bespoke furnishings, and custom-designed timber trusses, oozes sophistication. It’s premium. Just like their wine.

Adjacent to the Main Tasting Room is the private Collector’s Club members’ room, offering breathtaking 180° views of Taylors’ sprawling lawns and vineyards. The design seamlessly integrates polished terrazzo-style concrete with wood and brass details, marking transitions between the distinct areas.

Outdoor, wine lovers can bask in Clare Valley’s ambiance in two specially designed areas. The Courtyard, with its stone fireplace and protective Vergola roof, and the sunlit East Patio, both offer guests a serene tasting environment. Additionally, the purpose-built Event Pavilion ensures that events run smoothly without interrupting the cellar door’s regular operations.

Sustainability is evident in the build. Features like EV charging stations, solar panels, and water conservation initiatives underscore the winery’s commitment to the environment.

Kristina Soggee, Senior Project Architect at GP Architects, encapsulated the essence of the project, saying, “Our goal has been to create a space that epitomises both Taylors Wines and the Clare Valley.”

But what truly sets this cellar door apart are the new tasting experiences. From the Wine & Cheese Tasting Experience, which pairs Taylors’ award-winning wines with locally-sourced cheeses, to the indulgent Wine & Chocolate Tasting Experience, and the luxurious Flagship Wines Tasting Experience, there’s something for every palate.

This is definitely one to add to your Clare Valley bucket list.

Taylors Wines is open 10am – 5pm Thursday through Tuesday, and 1pm – 5pm on Wednesdays.

You can find Taylors Wines at 89A Winery Rd, Auburn. Find out more here.
