FIRST LOOK: The Laneway Social has opened and is serving marshmallow Sours and bacon fat Negronis

The former Belgium Beer Cafe has had a major $1.45 million transformation, serving quirky cocktails and mouthwatering feeds in the sunshine.

The Laneway Social, formerly the Belgian Beer café, opened its doors yesterday with a new look and a mouth-watering new menu.

“It was time for a new look, so the Laneway Social was born out of that,” says executive chef Paul Baker.

Gone are the dark wood timbers of the Belgian Beer café, and everything has been re-tiled with light and bright furnishings and a whole lot of greenery.

The goal was to create a friendly place for people to gather, whether it’s to have a drink before hitting the town, or to try the local produce from the extensive food and drinks menu.

“The food is a real uplifter,” says Paul, who says there is a big emphasis on keeping things local.

“We’ve got some great local suppliers that we’re really trying to champion. A lot more stuff we’re making in-house and we’ve got some great local producers on board.”

There’s a great selection of local beers, and also some guest taps where every week or two they will showcase different beers from local breweries.

“Everything is tied in with the drinks packages. We’ll start releasing them next week, but this week is just us getting a run-through, opening the doors, and letting the public experience the new Laneway.”

Paul says they’re expecting a big turnout on the weekend.

“We’ve had people trying to get in for the last week, so everyone in the neighbourhood knows that we’re ready to trade today.”

Whether you fancy a wagyu steak with a glass of shiraz, or some share plates with friends over cocktails, the Laneway is here to tantalise your tastebuds and take gastronomy to a whole new level.

“We’ve had a bit of fun with the cocktails,” says Paul.

The cocktail menu is oozing with creative combinations ready to quench your thirst and send shockwaves dancing across your palate. There’s a marshmallow funfetti sour, a limoncello spritz, and even a bacon fat washed gin negroni.

The menu is a fun mix of traditional pub favourites and modern cuisine with a real kick, with something for even the fussiest foodies.

“It’s one of those relaxed places where you can kind of make this your home any day of the week.”

So, stop by the Laneway on your way home from work or for a few drinks with friends on the weekend—you won’t be disappointed.
