Dip your toe into living the zero waste way with The Happy Jar: An immersion into a different way of living with the reassurance that doing your part for the planet matters.
New business owners Marc and Jocelyn plan to not only offer a service but an experience into the interesting world of zero-waste living by offering a facility for their customers to experiment and discover what appeals to them personally about this lifestyle.

Being a new venture for the couple driven by personal interest, they aim to capture the three Rs – reduce, reuse, recycle – in a convenient way and figured jars are the best method. “We want to promote the purchase of wholefoods in bulk by only purchasing what you need and that is how we landed on the business name. A jar is only happy if it’s full or empty.” Jocelyn says.

Marc says, “These last few years, everyone has become more aware of the human impact on the planet and as a family of five, we looked into slowly minimising our use of non-bio-degradable plastic, as 80% of it does not get recycled and ends up in landfill.
“Being zero-waste means to minimise your waste in every aspect of life, from food to cleaning and hygiene.”

In this store overflowing with fresh produce, you can find various zero-waste resources from homewares, to hygiene and even hobbies.
All of the bulk whole foods are sourced from businesses all over South Australia. You can enjoy delectable coffee items made with Adelaide’s own air-roasted Hark! coffee. Other delicacies include kombucha on tap sourced from Adelaide’s own Live Kombucha, as well as plant-based cheeses from Studio Voodoo and gluten-free desserts sourced by Adelaide business Chlo’s Vegan Club.

A zero-waste lifestyle is a bumpy journey and this new business is there to teach you about lifestyle alternatives. The best way to start is chatting with Marc and Jocelyn (over a nice cup of coffee) about how you can do your part for the planet, who say “We want to offer a facility with all the equipment in order to raise awareness on what we can all do to experience and enjoy our beautiful planet.”
The Happy Jar’s care for the planet is prevalent from how much they strive to keep every product on offer within South Australia, which is vital in the climate of supporting local. Having had a soft opening Saturday October 8, they made a good impression on locals by offering a twist on the traditional café setting.
This business will continue to grow with more food products coming soon and the possession of a liquor licence opens many avenues for them.
