The Sussex Hotel in Walkerville is reopening today after undergoing a complete transformation. The iconic venue has been reimagined from the ground up, blending Moroccan-vintage design with the charm of its heritage building. Since 1843, The Sussex has been a popular South Australian pub, and now it’s ready to welcome guests into its brand-new stunning, modern spaces.
The venue’s updated design includes expansive new dining areas with bi-fold doors that open to a beautiful courtyard, creating an indoor-outdoor flow. The space features a relaxed lounge bar, a parlour surrounding a central bar, and a unique all-seasons courtyard. The courtyard includes a two-way fireplace, two cozy gas-lit firepit nooks, and a retractable roof.
“We’ve completely redefined the layout, opening expansive new spaces that flow effortlessly from one to the next,” Lee Cook, General Manager of Hospitality, said.
“Bold, dramatic changes in the colour scheme and refined finishes have elevated every corner, blending the modern elegance of Moroccan-vintage inspired design with heritage charm to create a venue that invites exploration and connection.”
The new menu at The Sussex Hotel is a unique mix of seasonal creativity and classic pub favourites, crafted by head chefs Chris Wilson and Cristian Carbone.
Guests can enjoy flavour-packed shareable plates made with locally sourced ingredients, all served in a great atmosphere designed for socialising and connection. The venue’s all-day dining begins daily at 12pm, and a weekend breakfast menu will be available from 8am to 11am.
The Sussex is designed to be for everyone, with different spaces to explore. As well as the stunning courtyard, the hotel has a spacious dining room with natural light, a casual parlour, a welcoming lounge bar, and a relaxed drawing room. Each area has its own unique vibe, but all share access to the central bar – ideal for pre-dinner drinks or casual conversations over great food.
“The Sussex is a place to connect, unwind, and enjoy quality time with the people who matter most,” Lee Cook said. “Whether you’re a regular or visiting for the first time, we want our guests and loved ones to relax, mingle, and get reacquainted with a new favourite local, The Sussex Hotel.”
Located at 68 Walkerville Terrace, just 4km from Adelaide’s CBD, The Sussex Hotel is ready to welcome guests into its refreshed space as of Monday December 2nd. With off-street parking and a focus on creating moments of connection, The Sussex is a fantastic venue to relax and enjoy great food!
