Set in an idyllic location, looking out across the Forest of Dreams, new restaurant Tangkaira is the latest venture from the talented team behind Coffylosophy, husband and wife duo Harsh Mehta and Sneha Chaudhary.

Fresh from their opening in June, Tangkaira, the Aboriginal name for Hurtle Square, utilises many of the unknown ingredients native to Australia in a bid to shake up Adelaide’s brunch scene, with each dish created using native ingredients such as karkalla, muntries salt bush, warrigal and river mint.

With the majority of Tangkaira’s produce sourced from a small Virginia farm that specialises in native ingredients, the broad menu has been created in collaboration with Chef Callum Moynes, who spent two years at Publisher’s Hotel exploring the realms of culinary creativity using native ingredients.

Owners Harsh and Sneha felt it was important not to overdo the native angle and edge into the ‘themed restaurant’ space, but were passionate about celebrating delicious native produce throughout their menu, offering a refreshing tonic to the often intimidating fine-dining arena.

Guests can try a range of sweet and savoury dishes including baked lentil and tomato ragout lightly spiced with native pepper berry, kangaroo tail ramen, homemade banana bread French toast with Davidson plum and a rhubarb compote and an already hugely popular reimagined eggs benny, that features a lemon myrtle hollandaise sauce on potato rosti, upgrading your brunch from the typical English muffin.

Brunch fans will also be overjoyed with Tangkaira’s Feed Me menus removing the agonising decision of what to order, offering guests four dishes of the venue’s brunch highlights for $45pp. A lunch option of the Feed Me menu is also coming soon for those looking for a delicious venue later in the day.

Of course, those who have followed Harsh and Sneha for their incredible coffee won’t be disappointed, with Tangkaira unique in its offering as a long lunch venue that still provides great coffee, as well as a mouth-watering menu.

The casual space features a mix of low and high table seating and is the perfect place for a leisurely corporate lunch, just a short walk from the hustle of the CBD. Having recently acquired their liquor license, Tangkaira also offers a range of local and native drinks, from Adelaide Hills cider, Henschke wines, and Fig Gin to Wattle Amber Ale.

Looking to bring the tranquility of Hurtle Square inside the venue, a colourful mural by local artist Nicole Black has been painted along the walls, bringing to life Hurtle Square’s iconic fig tree with impressive fig branches and leaves adorning the space.

With indoor and outdoor seating (heaters provided!) guests can enjoy a relaxing lunch with a view with this iconic CBD location, with the airy venue flooded in natural light, with the space also offering a takeaway trade for busy morning commuters.

Tangkaira is the Hurtle Square’s flagship store and is surrounded by seven brand new apartment developments promising to bring new life to the square.

Tangkaira is open 7 – 3pm Monday to Sunday.
