Triple Creek Winery has announced plans for a new cellar door and function room to be built, hoping to fill the void for those wanting smaller function spaces in the west parts of the Barossa Valley.
After purchasing the property 2.5 years ago, Owner Sam Jayathilaka, has been researching ways to expand the winery in a way that would be beneficial to and desired by Barossa locals.
“I think this smaller-sized function space is what the Barossa needs,” Sam says.
“When I bought the property 2.5 years ago, I started reading about what might be good for the western side of the valley, there are lots of young people looking for venues in the Barossa, smaller venues, and there was a gap in the market I thought we could fill.”
“That’s how I came up with the idea for the function centre. We decided to go for a modern barn style. It’s going to be amazing, modern but rustic in style, with all glass looking out to the vineyard.”

The new function spaces will cater towards 150 people, making it ideal for weddings and larger parties. To accompany this, a new cellar door will also be built. This will be centred around the existing gum tree, bringing the outside in, and highlighting the natural beauty of the property.
“The cellar door is much needed. It will be the arrival point for functions, where people can gather around before they proceed to their event,” Sam says.
Sam says the new cellar door will be causal, unlike other restaurants in the Barossa. Simple cheese boards and pizzas will be on the menu to create a relaxed, family-like dining experience.

“This all came about purely because I looked at tourist data of the Barossa from the last couple of years, and analysed that they need a place for smaller venues. Whether it’s tourists or locals, this will be the perfect location for parties and events or even weddings,” Sam says.
“It will be a casual, but funky cellar door set up, I hope to bring in some local artists and they can work their magic on the space. I think in the summertime people will sit on the grass, have some wine and some food. It’s the perfect picturesque setting for it.”

If everything gets approved, Sam hopes that construction can kick off in October, and they will aim for it all to be done within a year.
The Triple Creek property vineyards feature vines over 27 years old that are producing Shiraz, Mataro and Merlot. The team hope for their wines to be approachable and enjoyable, while also being a true representation of the best of the region.
