Vinteloper launched their brand-new cellar door ‘the house’ on Friday, September 27th in Lobethal after a three-year post-bushfire rebuild. With its chic and modern design, the sparkling new spot will embody the winery’s motto of “Fun on the outside. Serious in the bottle.”

At the new cellar door, visitors can try a range of tasting experiences, with four unique wine flights to choose from. The ‘White Label’ flight includes four to five classic Adelaide Hills varietals from current vintage releases. While the ‘Timeless & Collectable’ flight will showcase limited production wines, including the ODEON Range and single vineyard selections.

For the adventurous, the ‘Black Label’ flight provides an experimental tasting similar to a Chef’s Table experience. And lastly, the ‘Cellar Door Only’ flight features exclusive wines not available elsewhere, such as back vintages and micro-batches.

To compliment the tastings, Vinteloper will be serving up generous grazing plates with artisanal cheeses, cured meats, pickles, and freshly baked bread sourced from local producers.

The opening holds special significance for Vinteloper founder David Bowley, who faced great challenges following the Cuddlee Creek bushfire in December 2019, which devastated 95% of their vines and destroyed the historic farmhouse.

“On December 20th 2019 everything changed for us. Our 30-acre property was devastated by the Adelaide Hills bush fire, destroying 95% of our vines and claiming our 100-year-old farmhouse,” Vinteloper said.

The recovery has come at an estimated cost of $2.5 million, but it has paved the way for the creation of a new tourism destination that brings together the history of the original farmhouse with innovative architectural design.

“We had a unique opportunity to architecturally re-imagine the ruin of our 1920 farmhouse, so tragically destroyed in 2019,” Vinteloper said.

The new cellar door will also feature a Biodiverse Replanting Project with over 2,000 rare native plants, symbolising resilience and recovery.

As of September 27th, the cellar door will welcome guests Thursday through Monday from 11am to 5pm. For groups of up to seven, walk-ins will be welcome, but those who prefer to plan ahead can easily make online reservations. Larger groups of eight or more will need to book in advance for a personalised experience.
