A new restaurant has opened its doors in Adelaide’s East End, bringing with it authentic Lebanese flavours and recipes that have been passed down through generations.
“The restaurant was started by my uncle, Chef Imad. I’m a partner in the business and have joined the journey to help open up Rundle St with my cousin Nadal,” shared business partner Rami.
Zayt & Zataar is a true family affair, with Rami and Nadal joining forces at the new Rundle St location.
“Behind the restaurant are generations of recipes that have been handed down. Our grandparents handed down the book of recipes to our parents, and they handed it to us. We’ve continued to make the same food that we grew up with.”

You may have heard of Zayt & Zataar because of their other location in West Lakes, or their recently closed Campbelltown spot. Or if you’ve been scrolling through food videos on TikTok, there’s a good chance one of their videos popped up!
“We actually went a bit viral on TikTok. We made a video and got 10.6 million views.”
From the video, the team got approached by the owner of the building that now houses the new Zayt & Zataar, and they decided it would be a perfect spot to open up the new restaurant. At Rundle St, you’ll find the same food you’ve come to know and love.
“It’s essentially the same food across the board throughout Zayt & Zataar. We’ve got a lot of vegetarian dishes, a lot of meat dishes, and charcoal skewers. Our mezze includes hommus, baba ghanouj, tabouli, fattoush. As for mains we’ve got Barramundi harrah which is a very, very popular dish. Mixed skewers are really popular as well.
“We’ve got a really wide range, it’s good stuff. We keep it traditional and how we do it at home. We’re very welcoming, we spend time with our customers, it’s not just like you come in, eat your food, and leave. We chat with the customers, we tell them about the history if they’ve got questions about Lebanon or the food, culture, we make you feel at home,” says Rami.

As for the menu, if you’re not sure what to go for, take a recommendation from the pro. Rami says, “I’d go the four dip platter for my entree, and then the mixed skewers. They’re great, I love it.”
Inside, you’ll find the walls decorated with chalk drawings. The team’s most recent addition to the wall is a quote reading ‘You step into a world of flavours, culture and warmth. Every table is set with care, every meal is crafted to tell a story of authentic Lebanese traditions’. At Zayt & Zaatar not only are you stepping into a world with delicious food and generations of culture, but you’re surrounded by art that tells the story.
