The first official whale sighting for the season has been recorded in South Australia!

Spotted off the Waitpinga Cliffs near West Island, one (or possibly two) humpback whales have been seen in what was an expected sighting, according to the South Australian Whale Centre.

The humpback was sighted on 19 April and is reported to have been having a “whale of a time tail slapping, breaching and travelling,” the organisation jokes.

The South Australian Whale Centre are looking forward to seeing more whale activity reported over the coming months as the season really picks up and encourages people to report any sightings.

There are several ways you can aid the South Australian Whale Centre in reporting a potential sighting which include:

  • Phoning them directly on 08 8551 0750 between 9am – 5pm
  • Emailing them at [email protected]

As soon as you make contact one of the teams registered whale spotters will hit the road to visit the location and confirm the incredible sighting.

Dust off your binoculars and get searching!

Keep up with the latest sightings at the South Australian Whale Centre’s website.
