Firstival is set to warm up South Australia’s public libraries this winter with a stack of first-time experiences on its 2024 program roster. From Monday 1 July, visitors can immerse themselves in over 200 unique events, ranging from sound baths and paint and sip sessions to terrarium workshops and nature journaling. This month-long celebration, continuing through to 31 July, showcases activities accessible to all age groups, covering the school holidays and offering a multitude of family-friendly options.

The President of the Public Libraries Association of SA (PLSA), Pepper Mickan said “Firstival’s comprehensive program encourages all South Australians to seek new experiences and connect with their local library in ways they never have before.” She shared that the festival’s offerings extend from Mount Gambier to Roxby Downs, ensuring that individuals from across the state have nearby access to events.

Firstival 2024 ensures that every South Australian has the opportunity to engage with their local library in novel and exciting ways. Beyond just paint and sip activities, the program includes podcast workshops and experiences inspired by music and cooking, truly varying the palette of options available. With events planned in all 130 public libraries across the state, Firstival aims to cultivate fresh connections and lifelong interests.

The Public Libraries Association of SA proudly supports this initiative as part of their ongoing commitment to enhancing the roles of libraries within the community. Libraries SA operates as a collective to foster curiosity through literacy, connecting people through shared discoveries and creative programs. By providing adaptable spaces and hosting local events, they aim to serve not just as a resource but as a community hub supportive of learning and social engagement.

Firstival, by offering free and low-cost events, ensures accessibility for all residents, promising a spread of knowledge and enjoyment without financial burden.
