Five Tips For A Fantastic People’s Choice Undies Run

Australia’s cheekiest fun run is back this weekend to kick off the 2018 Santos Tour Down Under on Sunday 14 January.

Australia’s cheekiest fun run is back this weekend to kick off the 2018 Santos Tour Down Under on Sunday 14 January. The People’s Choice Undies Run for Bowel Cancer is a fun-packed family fundraiser for Cancer Council SA that raises awareness and support for one of Australia’s biggest killers: bowel cancer.

This year, with the whole family involved, the People’s Choice Undies Run ambassadors – The Bachelor 2017, Matty J and Miss Universe Australia, Olivia Rogers – have five tips to make sure everyone is well prepared to strip down and help kick bowel cancer in the butt.

Be SunSmart

“Stripping down to your undies and running around Adelaide can be daunting enough. But with less clothing than we’re all used to, protection from the sun is extremely important,” Matty J said.

“While everyone will be wearing their matching undies, accessories like hats, sunglasses and other sunprotective
clothing can be worn onto the track,” he said.

“Applying sunscreen before the event is essential, and if you need to top it up while you’re chilling in the Undies Zone before or after the run, Cancer Council SA is supplying free sunscreen to keep you protected.”

Get social – fundraise for Cancer Council SA and connect with people to share the day

“The Adelaide parklands will transform into the Undies Zone with live entertainment and giveaways creating a festival for the whole family,” Matty J said.

“My competitive side seems to come out when it comes to fitness, so if you’re like me, bring your family, friends or team along and go up against them in the run,” he said.

“You can also share your fundraising page online and invite others to join your team in the lead up to the Undies Run.

“Creating an animated photo in the Undies Zone photo booth is another way to share the day and show off in your undies.”

Don’t forget your official undies

“Without your official undies on the day, you won’t be allowed to enter the track – so make sure you bring them along if you’ve already registered,” Olivia Rogers said.

“And if you haven’t registered before the Undies Run, you can always register at the track and swap your everyday wear for the undies,” she said.

“I know it takes a lot of courage to strip down in public, but not as much as facing bowel cancer.”

Bring some money

“Adding to the Undies Run festive day out, there will be a range of food and drink stalls set up all day,” Matty J said.

“You might find it hard to stash your cash or card somewhere in your undies, but make sure you bring some along,” he said.

Dress it up – choose a theme to celebrate

“All the children will be wearing their capes as Superheroes for Bowel Cancer Prevention this year, so it will be great to see everyone else dressing up for a cause,” Olivia Rogers said.

“Although you must wear the official Undies Run undies, you can dress up your outfit too – I’ve seen angel wings, superhero costumes, wigs – the only limit is your imagination! If you’re running in support of someone, dress up for them, or get your reason for running painted on you by one of the face painters in the Undies Zone,” she said.

Now in its sixth year, the Undies Run is a cheeky way of raising funds to combat one of Australia’s biggest killers: bowel cancer. Runners don matching underwear for a lap of the 2.3 km People’s Choice Classic circuit in front of 100,000 spectators before some of the world’s top cyclists take to Adelaide’s streets—except for children, which this year become Superheroes for Bowel Cancer Prevention with their own capes. Runners, joggers, walkers, prammers: the Undies Run is open to all.

The People’s Choice Undies Run has raised $730,000 for Cancer Council SA since its inception and has
funded ground-breaking research and vital support services while raising awareness of life-saving early
detection bowel screening kits. Registrations are now open here.
